Turkey is just the continuation of the Ottoman empire, sure they hold an important geopolitical role based on their location and geography but that's about it, it's been hundreds of years since they were a relevant military power. Their geography is their one and only saving factor otherwise NATO wouldn't be interested in keeping them around.
