So if I give you a 500 dollar loan and you come back and try to pay it off with 500 sea shells I am obliged to accept it? gotcha I will go collect 100k Sea shells for my bank try it out.

It is a big deal, who is going to loan money to or invest in Russia if they will risk not getting their money back? It sends signals to banks and investors all over the world that it's too risky to get involved in Russia.
5
They are only able to pay in Rubles and the loan terms specifies it has to be paid in dollars
4
@TimeForWin You are making more money than before yet still unable to pay off your national debt and defaulting, good job man.
4
The penalties will keep adding up and nobody in their right mind will invest or make loans to Russia now. They will get their money eventually with an extra bonus penalty fee on top anyhow.
4
A default is a default. Who would've thought invading another country would have consequences.
3
@alexorehowski3387 All sanctioned by the UN, even Russia and China did not vote NO on those ones. How many nations voted to invade Ukraine?
3
nobody is expecting them to pay their bills, now the penalties will keep adding up and nobody in their right mind will invest or make loans to Russia.
3
well at least we can use it for toilet paper I guess.
3
a default is a default. That's what you get for invading your neighbours - third world economy.
3
@alexorehowski3387 Because it was UN sanctioned and the member states voted on it.
3
@alexorehowski3387 I would not call it loan forgiveness but I suppose the US could always take some from the Russian foreign reserve assets that they have in their possession.
2
@smeff099 The effects are still the same no matter which excuse you try to give. I can tell my bank my dog ate my money that I was supposed to use to use to pay the loan as much as I want. Results are still the same.
2
It doesn't matter America has a large part of Russia's foreign assets if they cannot pay their loan they can always help themselves to some of that money.
2
@basedkaiser5352 a default is a default. Or perhaps this is another one of Russia's special operations? Default no this is not a default this is just a special operation, nothing to see here.
2
Your tax money is going to pay for the penalties you get when you default on the loan regardless if you care or not.
2
@hammyshayaddy8330 All sanctioned by the UN, it was even voted on. Did the UN have a vote about Ukraine?
2
Americans and EU sit on 70% of Russia's foreign reserve assets that are much larger than 100 million. There aint no problem, if there is can always help themselves to all that money.
1
The good thing about America is you are free to leave and go somewhere else anytime you want. You rather be Russian, then sit your ass on a plane to Russia. Easy. Nobody will stop you.
1
There are consequences for defaulting which were specified in the video, perhaps watch it?
1
@Commander_2532 It's a third world country that cannot pay their loans and invades their neighbours and should be treated accordingly.
1
@i.b7778 Europeans are pretty unfavourable towards Russians these days.
1
@alexorehowski3387 I don't think he is referring to the soviets.
1
@АнатолийПедченко-э9ф A PIG with a lipstick is still a PIG. A default is a default, it sucks I tried to tell my bank that my dog ate the money I was supposed to use to pay the loan too but they would not listen.
1
@siuuuuu6289 A default is a default there are no excuses that will make it go away, consequences are still the same.
1
@TG-nz1ci The US and Europe has 70% of Russia's foreign based assets that should be enough to start rebuilding Ukraine.
1
You think the whole world economy will go under because of one single country? Russia has the economy of Spain you think the EU would be destroyed from losing the Spanish Economy? Come on man that's just silly. It's one thing if China or the US went off the global economy then yeah we would feel the effects world wide. Just Russia though? Yeah it will sting but life will move on in a few months..
1
DontWorryDiaperJoeGotYouCovered Chinese Yuan? How many countries can you use the Yuan in? More than 2?
1
It's their fault for loaning money to a expansionist dictatorship. Hopefully that will be a lesson for all companies investing money into other dictatorships such as China and Russia.
1
Isn't this their third default? sounds like the opposite.
1
@alexorehowski3387 Okay let's see how many countries I can use the Rubles in.... Oh one, Russia. lol. Sounds like a fool-proof investment I am sure these guys are good at repaying their loa..... right.
1
Broke ass nation cannot even pay 100 million wtf? I thought the Russian economy was doing great now you cannot pay back your loans? Sounds like it's doing awesome.
1
@alexorehowski3387 Who would want to buy things in Russia right now unless you are Russian? Getting Rubles is not a good idea if you are not Russian in Russia. Totally useless outside Russia and it's very volatile there is no telling what it will be worth next month.
1
At least they pay their debt on time
1
You know once that time comes everyone in the world will die, there are enough nukes to destroy the world 1000 over. So yes keep calling for EU and America to be nuked just know your third world home country won't survive that nuclear war either .
1
@Commander_2532 Invading your neighbours have CONSEQUENCES?! I would have never expected that!
1
at least they pay their debt on time
1
disagree, surely it's more than 90%
1
He pretended to have cancer to hope they would cancel the debt, did not work.
1
@TheJcrist Okay specify one of these options then please. Legal options please I aint doing no illegal under the table deals with the local gangsters.
1
@draker769 I am sorry but if I go to my bank to repay my loan with toilet paper they will refuse too.
1
@alexorehowski3387 Yeah I don't see the problem either, I always go kill my neighbours too to take their stuff. I mean what's the problem?
1
That's what you get for loaning money to dictatorships let that be a lesson.
1
it's not a default it's a special operation.
1
I am pretty sure the bank won't allow you inside when they know you just went into your neighbours house and killed half their family, just saying.
