It was always going to be hard for England to keep its French territory as they had to ferry supplies and troops from England, the French on the other hand were fighting on home turf and could easily reach the English held territories at will. In the end there's only so many times the English could defeat the French outnumbered without supplies.

  2. Greed has nothing to do with nationality. You could also say the Danes were greedy to invade Gotland for plunder and the German mercenaries were greedy joining for money and plunder. Greed is universal across nationalities and cultures.
