Not really. The majority of NATO wants the Nordic countries. The majority of the EU does not want Turkey. I don't mean to sound rude but that's the truth.
7
Then stop taking money from them? You talk the talk yet your leaders come hat in hand begging for money.... stop complaining, create your own wealth instead of relying on money from people you hate.

@sahixxasm9757 Finland is a democracy, the finish parliament needs to approve the application before it's sent to NATO for them to accept it. The Finish parliament just approved it so now it's official that Finland applies for membership too.
6
@taneriiim A functioning market economy, a stable democracy and the rule of law, and the acceptance of all EU legislation. For western countries those are pretty simple conditions to pass.
5
They don't need to either Sweden, Finland and Turkey will make a deal or the other NATO countries will remind Turkey that they haven't forgotten that they made weapon deals with Russia 3 years ago in violation with the NATO treaty. Turkey will get the point.
4
@NatanStarke And cloudy days, or stormy days, or rainy days... you get the point. Solar and wind are very unstable compared to oil and nuclear where you always know how much you will produce.
4
They also pissed off every Nato member by delaying to accept Sweden for so long.
3
Not everyone is "bashing" Turkish opinion, there are plenty of western countries we're not all one big country lol. NATO is not a democracy, if it were then it would be enough if a majority of countries approved. This is not the case and ALL countries need to agree. That is not a democracy. It's a defensive alliance.

@onetruekeeper418 The US will do the haggling for them don't worry. US has blocked arms sales to Turkey and Erdogan will most likely want that removed.
2
@KamanoPilane2 SA is such a small market with small companies, American economy will not suffer, they need America a lot more than America needs them. It's their loss.
2
@alexbort3082 You do know that NATO has updated it's requirements for NEW members since a few years back, right? Also take note that they have deliberately written that these requirements are meant for NEW members because they are well aware that some of the older members like Turkey does not meet the requirements when it comes to democracy and human rights.
2
Win - win for everyone then. US stops wasting money down the drain and SA can stop relying on the US markets.
2
@Red-gv8fn Yeah probably best, I hear you risk getting arrested if you say anything bad about the supreme leader.

***** I can understand that some people don't want immigrants to come to their country, nationalist and right wings parties are big all around Europe now days but 400 per square km - physical reality? Monaco somehow manage 18,475 people per square km. I am not saying the uk should strive for that number but 400 per square km is NOTHING. There is plenty of room in UK, can the economy handle it? that is another question but space? thats just ridicilous.

To be honest it’s erdogan that gives trouble. You have to remember the guy is pretty much a dictator.
1
That’s not how democracy works. You vote for the politicians to represent you and make/change laws. You don’t get a referendum on every single decision or law they make. Besides any referendum had is not binding even if the people voted no the government doesn’t have to follow the results.
1
I am pretty sure he wanted F-35s but I guess he had to settle for the older version.
1
There’s already been talk to extending Nato to be against China and add korea japan and Australia. The European Nato members are not interested though.
1
@jamesb9375 I thought you said no means no. Now you say they need to accept your demands? So you want Sweden and Finland to lift the arms embargo right? It went from a "they are wasting their time" "we don't want you" to GIVE ME X. This is typical Erdogan he always pretends he is firmly against it then he is asking for payments the next day hahaha.
1
Dude they want to join because they are feeling threatened by Russia. There is no ill will in those countries towards Russia they are just afraid they will get invaded. IF Russia had no invaded Ukraine then they would not have wanted to join. How can you say they do this to antagonize Russia? They already said they are doing it because they feel threatened by Russia. All of Russia's neighbours wants NATO membership now. Just look at Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine - do you see a pattern?

Because 71% of Americans are white, why should they send money to a government on the other side of the world that hates them based on their skin color? America first, stop sending money to people that hate us and use that money for Americans instead.
1
@MehmetKoseDev You mean Europeans? Yeah and they can do that because they are powerful. You want access to one of the biggest markets in the world? Then play by their rules. If your country was powerful they would do exactly the same, that's just how it works.
1
@darksun6096 Compared to the Middle East and Asia they are like angels though. Doesn't mean they are good just means the middle east and Asia are much worse in regards to freedom and human rights.
1
White this white that yet your government leaders go beg the whites for money. If you hate white people so much why do you keep taking their money?
1
Erdogan was always going to say yes he just finally ran out of cards to play.
1
@Peyp59 Who cares, Erdogan is the sole reason why it's taken this long and he is still holding Sweden back from joining NATO while we are thankful he finally let us join it is noted and hopefully he will be gone in the election so we don't have to defend a Turkey with Erdogan in charge.
1
@72marshflower15 Of course Turkey needs NATO why did they join in the first place and if it's such a burden on them why don't they leave? Charles de Gaulle downgraded France's membership in NATO and withdrew France from the U.S.-led military command to pursue an independent defense system in 1966. It's not impossible to leave should you want to but Turkey has not. Do you think Turkey stayed in NATO out of the goodness of their heart? Of course Turkey needs NATO otherwise they would have left long ago.
1
You have to remember they have a culture of haggling he is throwing in his whole wishlist. It’s like when you want to sell something you start high and negotiate your way down with the buyer.
1
@superhumantrueman Crack down on the PKK? It's a designated terrorist organization there is no such thing as governmental co-operation with the PKK.
1
Don't worry about it they will let them in they are just using it as a bargain chip to get concessions... Erdogan does this ALL the time. They just want to buy weapons that's it.
