Comments by "zjeee" (@zjeee) on "Can RUSSIAN OIL be "BLOCKED"? (The DEFINITIVE punishment) - VisualPolitik EN" video.
I don't know I am from Sweden and 52% of the price of gas are taxes there's still plenty of room for us to alleviate the rising prices by cutting the taxes. Obviously this means less revenue for our government but maybe it's time to downscale the government anyway.

@ashman8891 Yes, because they are the biggest oil producers in the world. What people don't realize when they are moaning about Saudi Arabia and US ties is that without them the price of fuel would be a lot higher than it is now. Now Biden says no to Russian oil where does he go? He started talking to Venezuela.... People are already complaining about high fuel prices what do you think happens if you would cut your ties with the Saudis? If you want fuel at an affordable prize you have to buddy up to the "baddies". That's what happens when you kill your own energy production and have to rely on others. If the US would ramp up their own oil production they wouldn't have to keep Saudi as an ally but they don't so they have to. You can thank your environmentalists for that.

You are assuming all sanctions will be lifted as soon as the war ends, which I don't think is the case. Some of the sanctions will be there for a very long time.

Sorry to say but it doesn't look like Russia is coming out strong at all. 1 Month and counting.. tic tac... tic tac....

40% of the Russian state's revenue is from their oil. You do realize they need this foreign currency to buy things from other countries right? Very few countries accept the Rubel when they are selling things to Russia. So you think magically a random state is going to be knocking on Russia's door with a order making up for the US and EU which is Russia's biggest customers? That's not how it works. It takes time to shift supply routes and find new business partners you cannot just do these things overnight.

I agree they should follow Norway and start exploiting their own oil resources. Norway is filthy rich because of their vast reserves of oil that they sell.
2
Not really this will accelerate the US and other countries to start ramping up their own oil production as they realize it's not in their strategic interest to rely on other nations for their own energy needs.

You won't care much about your net zero 2050 goal when you are freezing to death because there is no electricity

@ben5056 That's not the problem, 70% of China's energy is coal driven. They have no need to buy the amount that the US and EU does as we're more reliant on oil to produce energy than they are. Even if Putin wants to China doesn't need the same quantity as the US and Europe.
2
@scpatl4now That was before, with these new gas prices it looks like most independents and quite a few democrats are jumping ship.

@SqueekyClean976 Then why have the Russians continued to sell oil and gas to the EU and US all these years when they have markets in Asia that are more friendly towards them? After all they allegedly have a bigger market down there than they do in EU and US? Truth is that any "decent economist" would tell you things are not that simple. China's electric grid as an example is 70% driven by coal they have no need for oil or gas for their electricity consumption like the EU and US. If you ever been to China you would know most people still use electric scooters over cars and their electric car market is really strong. Furthermore no "decent economist" is positive about China's economic situation right now with all the lockdowns and big companies going bankrupt. Companies are moving their factories to Vietnam and India because basic things such as China cannot supply their factories with electricity anymore. Just take a look at the Chinese stock market right now it's a biiig biiig mess.

They are, Germany is considering opening up their nuclear power plants again.
1
@HimanshuSharma-oe4mk If it was that simple Russia would not have sold oil to the EU and US in the first place. They would have traded with India and China, so why haven't they?
1
That's the reason why we have this problem in the first place, if Ukraine was in NATO Putin would not have attacked in the first place.
1
Yeah they can do that and face the consequences for breaking the sanctions, let's see how much they care about all that aid the west keeps sending them. We can keep that money and improve our own societies instead.
1
How about we make a plan to combat climate change that doesn't include making ourselves dependent on our enemies or bad actors for our energy supply? That would be a good starting point.

"Imagine middle age nation with a lot of serf, poor economy and nuclear weapon" I think that sums up North Korea lol.

@Uranium 235 Did you forget Indian and Chinese soldiers killed each other a few years back on the border. The guys hate each other you really think India would allow China to control gas to them? They get problems China could just shut it down and India cannot do anything. So no a Russian pipeline through China won't happen.
1
@Uranium 235 Not really NATO is a defensive alliance and has only been triggered once in the Iraq war after 9/11. "The Europeans don't realize that the Yankees are using them" You do realize many NATO countries are below 2% spending and are using NATO as a way to cut their own military spending and letting the "yankees" foot the bill for their own protection? NATO is not perfect but as the war has shown if you're not in it Russia will come for you next, which is something that nations like Finland and Sweden has realized. Putin made a great case for NATO and the alliance will surely grow by a few nations these coming years.

If the US ramps up it's own production it can be done but that will take time and is probably not possible with an administration like they have now.
