I agree, same here living outside Sweden I would always get so disappointed only finding the grown store-bought ones here they don't taste anything close to the wild berries found in the forests back home.

@OgdenM Not the same as slavery, they can stop working tomorrow if they wanted to and get into another trade. Slavery ended long time ago and it doesn't explain why some former colonies are doing great while others cannot even feed their own population.
8
They could always go work somewhere else, the problem is that this pays them way more than the national average in their country. Failed countries makes for a poor population.
4
So you are implying the US would invade Ghana over chocolate? You must be high man wtf hahahaha.
3
Those were donations, you said it yourself. A donation is free of charge.
2
Not sure if you heard about it but there is this thing called regulations. American companies are not allowed to do certain things that would have a negative impact on the environment while in Africa and China they can pretty much do whatever they want as long as they make money.
2
shows how shitty the government of that country is that their citizens have to resort to such labor intensive work for such low compensation.
2
nobody is stopping them. Just the warm weather and the lack of domestic demand makes it a lost cause. Also making chocolate is complex you need expensive machinery and people with know-how.
1
that's for 4 hours, that's not bad for where they live. You have to remember the average salary and cost of living is not universal across the world. You can get by with much less over there. In the US that is nothing, where they live they are above the average salary.
1
They could stop selling to the "white man" tomorrow if they wanted to and sell it to the Asian man for a lower price. Alas they sell to the highest bidder.
1
Why do you think they are using canoes? Money, they cannot even afford the fuel to run the excavator let alone buy one.
1
@starkparker16 Native from Sweden here the berry picker tools we locals generally use doesn't have a handle at all it's pretty much the same as picking the berries by hand just a lot faster. So those tools looks like luxury to me I am surprised the migrant pickers get ones with handles as I always assumed they were treated a lot worse than what I see in this video.
1
@9879SigmundS And why did Russia participate in WW1? Because their ally Serbia was attacked. It's not like "the west" decided HEY it's time to invade Russia! They got dragged into the war because of their promise to protect Serbia. I would recommend a history book, or perhaps two.
1
Yep, that's just what Africa needs, more military dictators. lol
1
You do realize if the west would stop buying gas from the Middle East they would go back to the stone age over night, right? They literally provide nothing to do world other than gas.
1
yep, always easy to point your fingers at others for your own failures.
1
Slave labor would suggest he doesn't have a choice though. Pretty sure he could quit tomorrow if he wanted to.
1
Then why are your brothers and sisters sacrificing their life and limbs to go to Europe then? And why does your government beg on their knees for Aid-money from Europe? You should not bite the hand that feeds you.
1
The people complaining about capitalism still wants cheap stuff. They will complain about it then go buy cheap products and complaining it's too expensive not realizing they are part of the problem they are whining about online.
1
Why? Slavery was around long before the white man came to Africa and it's been alive long after the white man made it against the law. Truth is countries in the Middle East are practicing slavery to this day and they are very unapologetic about it while westerners are feeling guilty over something their ancestors did hundreds of years ago. You are free to smile as much as you'd like, unfortunately slavery in the Middle East is ingrained in their culture and has been for thousands of years.
1
I am not sure why any citizen of Europe or America would be jealous of the third world but hey if it makes you feel any better...
1
Ghana is a free independent country, they are free to make their own trade deals. Even if what you said is true - which it isn't - it would be the Ghanan government and its people that voted them in putting themselves in that situation.
1
Durian theme chocolate..... of course those types would be better in Asia, very few people know what durian is in the west, there is no market for it outside Asia. I don't even know where to buy Durian fruit in my home country in the west. We don't really eat Durian here. The only reason I know what Durian is is because I lived in Asia for 8 years.
1
Plenty of sand to go around, ever been to a desert? There's only a sand crisis because the sand mining in poor countries is slowing down. Plenty of sand in other places, just it costs more to mine it over there. Ever been to the beach? Yeah plenty of sand around my man.
1
Yeah let's forget about all the deserts that's full of sand - we are totally running out of sand.... LOL just go to the local beach - bet you can find plenty of sand. God some people don't think lol.
1
yep, richest continent in the world when it comes to natural resources but cannot provide for their own citizens. Rich leaders taking bribes to sell their natural resources to other countries.
1
To give him credit though Fifa doesn't care and neither will the football players that compete in the world cup nor all nations sending their national teams there nor the millions of viewers on TV.
1
Because sand mining in the US is heavily regulated in order to keep environmental impact to a minimum, that is why companies buy sand from Africa and China because it's cheaper because pretty much non existent regulations and lower salaries. As you have a Chinese name you'd know what the air is like in Beijing during winter, that's what it looks like when you have relaxed regulations when it comes to pollution. US cities would be exactly the same if they had the same regulations as China for their factories and electricity generation. Alas They have more regulations which makes it more expensive to produce things but it keeps the air cleaner. Same goes for producing sand, more regulations = more expensive but less environmental impact.
1
They hold the product, they don't have to sell to specific countries and industries if they don't want to.
1
@ohkfilms Doesn't work like that because that would sky rocket the berry price which most people would simply not be willing to pay. I think you are naive calling the Fins opportunistic. I can bet you a lot of money you own things made by slave labor in China yourself, t-shirts made out of Xinjiang cotton or perhaps an Iphone and so on. That's just how the world works and why things are a lot cheaper than they would be if they were made in the west.
1
Probably the same reason they use canoes and not motorboats. Cheaper to pay them 12 dollars a day than sink in massive money in machines, repairs, fuel etc. A lot of these people don't have a lot of money to invest either so a Canoe is all they can afford.
1
Yeah gotta love the I can barely provide for my family then the guy has 4 kids.... plenty of people in the US and EU that would not be able to afford having 4 kids.
1
Without the western countries sending all that aid money and buying oil the Middle East would be living like the stone age. If the west disappeared over night the Middle East would cease to exist. 90% of income from oil the rest 10% aid money.
1
No colonization in Cameroon anymore they elect their own governments that makes decisions for them. To be fair though - they were a lot better off under French rule than they are now but that's neither here or there - sometimes freedom is worth a lot more than a stable economy.
1
Well I will remember that line of argumentation next time I stand in court for killing somebody. Hey judge what's the big deal about killing somebody that happens all over the world, why do you have to punish me for it? Low-IQ way of arguing.
1
But... they do the same in China - mine sand for low wages... and they are communists which is supposedly the opposite of capitalism yet the result is the same, how is that - comrade.
1
Well they could keep it without translation but then they would only get French viewers. With English they can reach an audience across the world, English is a world language. French is pretty tiny in comparison.
1
@damobuns7639 Yep the best way to convince someone to be neutral is to bomb their civilian population. Obviously if Ukraine did not hate Russia before they will now.
1
Yeah well clock ticking 1 month and counting... 15k dead Russian soldiers later tic toc tic toc.
1
Your living expenses are much higher than him though, cannot compare. I live and work in a developing country, I earn less than I would at home in Northern Europe but I am still able to save more money here than I would at home due to lower costs of living.
1
It's always easy pointing your finger at someone else and calling yourself a victim. Who is stopping them from opening up their own processing plants and making their own products? Nobody is holding a gun to their heads, you want to open up a processing plant and chocolate factory in Ghana you are free to do so. There are no shackles, only the ones in your head keeping you down.
1
Europe used slaves 200 years ago, 3rd world countries are still using them to this day. That's what you get when you host the world cup outside of the civilized world, I am not sure why everyone is so surprised.
1
To be fair, I agree but we're in a position to actually get a job we enjoy. They really don't have much choice. If you live in a western country with internet access you and you are stuck with a job you hate it really is up to you to get off your ass and find a better job. I have been to so many poor places in this world, people have really shitty jobs but they don't complain and they are quite happy. Then we have people back home that have a job that's 10000 times easier than 90% of the world and they still find time to complain about how much they hate their job. If you really, truly hate your job then it's on you to quit and find a better job. Where I live now people do 996. From 9 am to 9 pm 6 days a week, in my home country people are whining over 8 hours a day 5 days a week is too much they want 6 hour work days 4 days a week. New generation of westerners are getting really weak.
1
China did for 30-40 years? Look where that got them, now they are begging people to have 3 kids.
1
SO how many workers died in European countries preparing for the world cup? How many workers died in Qatar? You do know this is like golf, the lower the better. This is not a sort of thing where you want to see high numbers.
1
Human rights is a western concept yes, slavery was abolished and outlawed in the west while in the East it's been practiced long before the White man came and joined in and it will continue to be practiced long before the white man left the slave trade hundreds of years ago. People in the Middle East are generally pissed off when westerners complain about Human rights because that usually means they have to improve the situation for their subjects if they want to receive all that sweet Aid-money from the west. imagine having to work for your money... that is unacceptable! These arrogant westerners complaining about how we treat our peoples....!!! Oh please send Mohammed over to collect all that aid money from the west Mustafa!
1
of course, welcome to the Middle East.
1
Nah, not really. Cameroon is a democracy - they are perfectly able to decide who sits in the government - why is it the fault of Europeans that these nations elect leaders that will sell their nations national resources to enrich themselves and concentrate wealth among themselves and their friends? These are people like everyone else, they are not stupid, they do not lack in ability, they are perfectly able to make their own decisions. It's unfortunate that they have corrupt incompetent leaders but at the same time they voted them in there and they can vote them out. It's not the responsibility of Europeans to dictate the decisions Cameroonians make. If they don't want to sell their natural resources to European companies they can literally stop tomorrow. So are you suggesting European companies are behind exploitation and poverty in the region but Cameroonians are too stupid to realize it, that's kind of racist. Like I said these are not stupid people - if things were so simple as you'd suggest they would have stopped co-operating with Europeans long time ago.
1
well things look similar in China and they are communists, which is opposite of imperialism supposedly - looks like people are the same after all - no matter ideology.
1
@Reflexzzzz lol
1
Vietnam was a long time ago and when it happened there were HUUUGE anti-war protests in the US and all over the world it was friggin 50 years ago though man obviously a modern day war will have more coverage than a war that happened 50 years ago.... High IQ comment over here.
