So taking loans to pay for loans with tax-payer money increasing your state debt at the expense of the population is all okay for any public project? Who makes that decision? Do you want to increase your own tax rate by 40% so 1000 people can travel to their remote village with a high speed rail once a year? China also has a golden statue of Mao Zedong that was also a "public" project. Would you enjoy being forced to pay for a golden statue of the leader of your country from your own pocket? There is nothing wrong with public projects inherently but the money comes from the tax-payers so obviously China could have made a high-speed rail to every single remote village in China if they wanted to but the Chinese population would not have appreciated a 90% tax rate. Squandering public funds is bad no matter which ideology you look at it through, even communism.

So basically the tax-payers are paying for your tickets and the interests on the loans to pay off the loans :) that's what subsidized means. You don't have to make money on everything that being said if your project puts excessive burdens on your tax-paying population then it really doesn't matter if you had good intentions or not. And yes this would not be viable in the US as a lot of Americans don't trust their governments to make the correct choice in spending their tax-dollars. In China the population doesn't have a say in the matter they can only hope it was a fiscally correct move, even if it isn't they cannot hold their leaders accountable for bad economic decisions anyway.

They are doing a great job of bringing down themselves atm

@dzhellek You might be right, coming off yet another long lockdown here in China the only business doing profit is the COVID testing business. We are open now yet when you stroll outside along the chain of stores half of them are still closed and looking for somebody to rent the business space. JD (Jing Dong) it's like Amazon bought up 3 huge malls nearby because the stores in there cannot afford rent anymore and made the whole shopping mall into a JD warehouse (like Amazon warehouse). I am sure the government will find a way to make up for lost revenue but for Chinese business owners this has been devastating.

@jonathanchen5902 That's not how demographics work, China is an economic powerhouse because, as it is sitting right now the main bulk of the population is at the prime working age 35-50 years old. The problem will come years later when that group retires and will leave a massive burden on the next generation as they are far fewer and will have to support a massive aging population of retirees. China did recently remove the one child policy and is REALLY REALLY trying to get more people to have more than one kid - why do you think that is? You go from one child policy for decades with heavy punishment for breaking it to PLEASE HAVE AS MANY AS POSSIBLE within a few years. Obviously the government realized this is going to be a massive problem in the future with a shrinking workforce and and the bulk of your population at retirement age. It's basic demographics, it will slow down the economical growth substantially.

EU and US would, African countries? Not so much.

Yes.. maybe in a hundred years the Xinjiang - Lanzhou line can finally cover it's electricity bill.. and start worrying about the other costs LOL.

No, most companies leaving China are going to Vietnam
1
Yep because everytime you dont praise China you must be anti-China. What us the point of a full deck of cards when you only use one, the victim card.
1
It's not in the Chinese governments interest to do so, they already censored the shit out of internet. What do you think is going to happen when all those foreigners come there and start telling people about all those forbidden things. The CCP is so afraid of foreign influence I just can't see them ever opening up, these last years it seems like they are slowly but surely closing China off from the rest of the world rather than opening it.

Nah Mexico and Vietnam is where it's happening right now. Even Chinese companies are moving their factories to Vietnam these days.

So was Luckin Coffee until it was revealed they had fabricated their financial reports and they went bankrupt in US.

The same government that upheld a strict one child policy for 30-40 years leading to a massive future problem and now begging it's citizens to get 3 children? Yeah great long-term planning bro. Obviously they make mistakes too, let's not exaggerate.

Russia is better equipped to survive sanctions they are self sufficient on energy and food.
1
Might be you are right, there are also critics that says their numbers are highly inflated and over exaggerated. As an outsider it's impossible to know, only the government elites in China know for sure.
1
Right now nobody, if they would to attack Taiwan thought then that number would be more than 1.

and once the west moves those factories making said goods to another country then life will continue as normal for the west. The factories are in China because it's profitable not because the Chinese possess some magical ability to make basic equipment that nobody else can make.

Well the video doesn't take into consideration the traditional China vs the Modern China either, sons are still a big deal in the rural areas. Much less so in the big urban cities. Also in a lot of rural areas you were always allowed to have 2 kids if your first kid was a girl or if you were part of an ethnic minority. Compare Beijing to a small city in Yunnan for example, it's like you are in a different country. I am happy you guys finally had a little daughter for your family :p.
