Yes, education without a Chinese nationality is sooooo much easier. You don't have to send your kid to a school according to the hukou you can send him/her anywhere. The schools don't care as long as you pay the tuition fee it's all about that money. Will also be easier to get into Chinese universities with a foreign nationality.

Changing nationality does not mean the child will lose the possibility to have a Chinese identity. Nationality and identity are not linked in that way. To be fair she kind of had to, China doesn't allow dual nationality, America does. If this law did not exist I'm pretty sure they would have decided to keep both. She might regret it but in the end it's her baby and her choice I'm sure they are doing what's best for the baby, most foreigner - Chinese couples choose this option.

Honestly not even the people working with these issues are sure how these laws work. When me and my wife did the same thing they could not tell us what we needed they had to call all kinds of government people to find out how to proceed, this was in Anhui and they eventually ended up calling Beijing about it. Of course researching would be a good idea but not even the government officials fully understand these laws.

China doesn't allow dual citizenship. Being Chinese is a pain in the ass if you decide to travel outside China, but if you get an American passport you have created a conflict of nationality in the Chinese governments eyes, the law clearly states ONE CITIZENSHIP only and your child has 2 passports. When this happens Congratulations your child has no nationality in China now, Chinese don't recognize her American citizenship BUT they also don't recognize her Chinese citizenship until you renounce the American citizenship. Basically the Chinese laws for these matters are 40 years old when there were no foreign-Chinese couples around. You have to get a special "blue book" from the entry-exit authorities every time you want to leave the country because the airport staff will not accept an American passport OR a Chinese passport on the Chinese side. Once you land outside China you can use your passports like normal. Living in China keeping her Chinese citizenship means she can only go to school in the area where her mother has her family book, among other things. So say you live in Beijing and it's time for your daughter to have a vaccination you must go to wherever she has her family book, this can be all across the country. Most matters big and small will require you to go back to that place. Your daughter is not Chinese anymore? Congratulations you can send her to school anywhere you want and she can be given medical care anywhere.

The US has birthright citizenship which is quite rare, not a lot of countries has this. If 2 non Chinese citizens have a baby in China then that baby will have the same citizenship as his or her parents. For example if an American-English couple has a baby in China this baby will be able to get both an American and English citizenship.

That was smooth just a simple visit and it's done? Me and my Chinese wife did the same for our daughter last year and they claimed it would take 3 years to actually complete our application. I think they just said this to get us to not renounce it though.
