@JCarlosCS1221 The funny thing is most countries would do the same if they had the capability to do so. Do you honestly think Mexicans were the natives of that place? They just stole the land from Spain that had previously been stolen from the natives. I am pretty sure the natives of the land stolen by Mexico can name a certain negative intervention from Spain. Unfortunately that's just how it goes, the strong will conquer the weak and the winners will write history.

@JCarlosCS1221 I was just pointing out that technically it was never their land to begin with. It's hard to accuse someone of stealing something that was never yours to begin with. In a perfect world it would have still belonged to the indigenous peoples before Spain came along. In the end yeah that land was never America's but it's not like Mexico were the original owners of it either. Also I am pretty sure that Santa Anna would have had no problem whatsoever to take American lands if the situation was reversed, the guy was power-hungry as F.

No need to feel bad for her, her family conquered the other Hawaiian Islands and subjugated the peoples there to form their kingdom. The US did the same to her that her ancestors did to the other Islands. It's easy to point the fingers but the facts are all kingdoms and nations, big and small have conquered and subjugated others at one point or the other in history. No nation has clean hands.

So basically Spain stole the land from the native population, then Mexico stole the stolen land from Spain and in the end the US stole the land that Mexico stole from Spain that Spain had stolen from the native population? Considering all the Mexicans trying to get across the border to immigrate into the US I'd say the US would have saved a lot of people a lot of problems if they just annexed the whole country.

@GainingDespair Yep they just spawned out of nowhere and their borders have stayed intact for 5000 years. Pretty odd.

A dictator that was married to her brother at one point. Sounds like an interesting family.

Meh it's just a grift. Some people like to hear things like that, white guilt and all that.

A nation is just a social construction, it's not a living thing so labeling it as good/evil makes little sense. Also if you see a nation that is bigger than a village (which means all nations) that means at one point or another there was conquest or subjugation involved in growing said nation. The Hawaiian kingdom was founded by one island conquering and subjugating the other islands. If it makes you feel any better if Hawaii were in the US shoes they would have done the same, that's how they formed their Kingdom in the first place by conquering their weaker neighbors.

They lost their capital to a force of 5000 men, maybe they would've but then again probably not.

We have a saying in my country, one man's death is another man's bread. That is how we humans work, Brittish could take it so they did, Indians would have done the same to the Brittish if they could of in a heartbeat. Alas big fish eats small fish.

That's history, I am sure there are millions of historians out there and they rarely agree on anything.

All nations got bigger at their neighbors expense. Any nation bigger than a village, which is every nation has done some territorial expansion at one point or the other. If you are from a smaller nation you might think you were "good/nice" but in actuality your nation is only small because they lacked the numbers or had stronger neighbors. If the Hawaiians were stronger than the US they would not have thought twice about conquering them. US and Europe are getting flooded by immigrants because that's where the good life is, we live in a global world and of course people are going to the best (Richest) place they can find.

So the queen's family invaded and conquered all Hawaiian island and formed a kingdom executing anyone that had an issue then a bigger fish came and gobbled them up? Say it ain't so, are you expecting me too feel bad?

Because back then we did not have any international rules dictating what you can and cannot annex. These days we all agreed to put an end to such behaviour and agreed upon a set of rules. Russia and China annexed plenty of nations and territory hundreds of years ago too and that was completely fine. In fact every nation in existance has annexed territory at one point or the other. It's only modern day annexation that's looked down upon. If you stop to think it's quite logical.

It is funny how the slavs that took over ended up being orthodox just like the Eastern Romans. What a coincidence.....

@IrishMapper_sus That's how all states expand. You think Ireland started out with the territory they have now? Small clans conquered by big clans to found kingdoms oppressing others. All nations are built from single villages taking advantage of weaker neighbours. I am from a smaller nation myself so I get the whole let's make big countries feel ashamed and remind them that they have done bad things but truth be told my own country may be small but it grew by taking lands from our neighbors, there's no need to feel ashamed by it, everybody does it. And the ones that did not take that much only did so because they lacked the strength/numbers or had stronger neighbors.

Didnt they get defeated and driven out by the Arabs? The guy thought he was related to Hans, turns out it was Ahmed.

And when they were done they fought eachother, communist China fought against communist soviet and Vietnam. Shia fight against Sunni and so it goes...

Probably similar by that time most romans were non Italians anyway. When the Germanic tribes took over they sometimes did not change how things were run that much. Same language, religion and the roman aristocracy was mostly kept intact.
1
Progressive? Are you talking about the same royal family that married brothers to sisters and executed anyone that thought about independence from their kingdom?
1
All nations bigger than a village are built on the killing and taking of their neighbor's territory. Say hello to every nation state in existence.
