@abps9947 Georgia should be free to choose their own fate. If they want to join then let the member states discuss it.

@NgolaNalane Nope, NATO relies on it's members to join by their own free will. Support for NATO in Finland and Sweden before the invasion was hovering around 20-30% now it's up to 70% putting pressure on it's politicians which in turn applied.
70
@quinntinmann That's your opinion, 76% of Finns doesn't agree with you. Perhaps we should let them choose their own fate instead of telling them what to do? They are a democracy after all.
8
@magnuslundstedt2659 Well you are in the minority then, only 20% of Swedes oppose NATO now.
7
@magnuslundstedt2659 Why not? We do business with countries like Saudi Arabia and China turning a blind eye to their transgressions and human rights abuses.. Why is it a big deal if we do the same for Turkey?

So what you are saying is that Russia are allowed to have nuclear missiles that can fly from Russia to Finland in less then a minute but for some reason Finland is not?

@thelikesofus324 What? The US invaded Iraq with less than 200k men. They took Baghdad with around 30k soldiers lost only 34. Iraq had 400k soldiers at the time and 600k reserves. Yes you are right, they are using different tactics - do you know why? Because the US forces are better and retained air superiority very quickly. Meanwhile Russia would love to employ US tactics but they lack the capability to enforce air superiority and the communication and skills to combine air-navy-ground operations. In the US army the Navy, Airforce and Infantry will work as one in the Russian army individual infantry divisions fail to co-operate. It's not like the Russians use a different tactic because they want to they just simply do not possess the ability to do what the US army does.

Article 42 is not binding and is still being debated what it actually means. Sweden and Finland has been spending decades downplaying this article as void.

NATO has nothing to do with economics it's a defensive alliance. Sweden only relies on Russian oil and gas for about 5% of their electricity. I doubt it will make a dent

You think Russia doesn't know about other markets? They chose the EU and US markets because they are the biggest markets in the world. They are starting to turn East now but as you know the Asian countries are not as rich and Russia has had to meet India's demands for cheaper oil and gas so they are getting less income from the East than they would with the West. Which is why they had so much trade with the west in the first place. You are wrong about economic strength in terms of export - it's much more complicated than that if that was true then Africa would be the richest continent in the world as it's the richest continent in terms of Natural resources. Problem is they are a raw material economy and they sell their raw materials cheap and the developed world refine it and resell it at a higher value.

@jayasuryangoral-maanyan3901 You think democracies hold referendums for every single decision? That would be very expensive and extremely in-effective. The Finish public have voted in their politicians that represent them. Should they step out of line the Finish people can always elect new politicians that promises to leave NATO should they not support it.

New members have to be democracies and respect human rights so they would not meet requirements
1
Then why are your US politicians actively promoting NATO and seeking influence over European markets and establishing military bases in Europe?
1
Then why did they ask Sweden and Finland to lift their arms embargo if they want to be accepted in NATO? Surely if they are going to VETO anyway there is no point in giving any demands to Sweden and Finland?
1
Unfortunately NEW members need to be democracies and respect human rights. I don't think Russia and China would fit the bill on that one.

@rahulsubramanian6545 Swedish and Finish governments don't support Kurdish militants but many Kurds that fled Turkey under Erdogan's iron fist do. Which is not really that surprising they had to flee Turkey because of Erdogan's policies so of course they support his enemies. Both Sweden and Finland has a huge Kurdish population that fled from Turkey.

That's just the Russian mentality, invading Ukraine then getting pissed off when the Ukrainians strike back on Russian territory. "Rules for thee and not for me" mentality.
1
@nunoalvarespereira87 You mean like North Korea? Yeah looks great over there.
1
@skywillfindyou And the US loves it because they are eliminating their own military too.
1
And once they do they will be themselves toast in a few minutes. Which they know and is why they won't send nukes to EU. That's why it's called mutual destruction.

Russia has the economy of Spain. Spain is considered a financial mess by European standards.
1
Well you keep your Muslim brothers from exploding themselves on our streets and we'll try to hold Russians firmly in Europe. You deal with your trash, we deal with ours. Deal?
1
@modelmark And Russia never ever broke any of their promises huh? Dictatorships crying over broken promises give me a break.
1
Russia keeps backing it's neighbors up into corners yet they cannot handle it when the shoe is on the other foot.
1
Compared to Russia a paper plane is advanced.
1
@babla69420 Does Russia have enough time to send nukes on every 30 member state before the Nukes start raining down on them?
1
Unfortunately for you the Finish people don't agree with you.
1
@emirkokturk1599 It's funny that you support a regime that has demanded Finland and Sweden to lift their arms embargo on Turkey before they accept their membership then. You want peace but the Turkish government wants to be able buy weapons in return for NATO membership for Finland and Sweden. I don't want war but PLEASE CAN YOU SELL ME SOME WEAPONS?????! LOL.

Just like Denmark and Norway was protected by their neutrality when Hitler attacked? Or just like Finland was protected by their Neutrality when Stalin attacked? Just like Kuwait was protected by their neutrality when Saddam attacked? Since when do dictators care about Neutrality? If Russia was peaceful NATO membership would not be necessary for Finland and Sweden. Unfortunately this is not the case and Russia loves to invade it's neighbours. Ukraine was not the first nation Putin decided to attack and likely won't be the last. If Russia is stupid enough to attack NATO then it doesn't matter if Finland or Sweden are members or not, Russia has 6000 nukes - it takes about 100 to destroy the world. If Russia decides to attack we're all doomed whether we are part of NATO or not.
