  5. I think the ball has been dropped a bit here in that post covid viral illness has been much worse for me than what I experienced after viral fifth disease. This is most likely due to getting re-infected with Covid over and over again. I've had Covid more times in the past 4 years than I've ever had the flu in my entire lifetime. My current covid problems may be due to the fact that I’m now over 50 whereas I was in my 30’s and in optimal health when a parvovirus B19 infection, which is known to cause a "lupus" like post viral syndrome, lingered in my body for over 2 years, this was around 20 years ago. Fortunately for me, I didn’t keep getting re-infected with fifth disease over and over again 2-3 times every year. Oddly enough, getting a 20+-year break from the virus that causes fifth disease gave my body some time to let me do some things to help it heal and recover and manage occasional flare ups of symptoms. I can say that yes, there are some similarities to what I experienced before with fifth disease- which were primarily joint pain and chronic fatigue, but my lingering post covid problems have been more extensive i.e. unresolved gut dysbiosis, sleep disturbances and dysautonomia due to vagus nerve damage and tinnitus and headaches and peripheral neuropathy. I have a link to an article titled- Long Covid Looks Like a Neurological Disease. The term has been used for too long now for the Aussies to wave their magic wand in an attempt to make the name change. The news coming out of Australia doesn't seem to take the neurological damage into account in the same way that it does not take into account those who have damaged livers, kidneys, or hearts like you mentioned. It takes me about 4 months to recover from post covid fatigue each time I get reinfected, and I don't think the flu comparison is a wise one here as it diminishes what has happened to many of us. I understand that the flu can be deadly and can linger, but making flu comparisons now after shutting down the planet for the Covid pandemic seems like a sick joke. The Spanish Flu is still the Spanish Flu and not just the flu. Using that name identifies it with a certain time period. I've got no problem with Long Covid being placed in a post viral syndrome or ME/CFS category as doing so may help some people find support for their condition, but telling people not to call it long covid anymore is just bizarre at this point, especially with the claims that it's not a real illness or that it's psychological in nature floating around out there.

  19. The American story is what it is, it's there if you can see it through the lens of what it is and what it is not- it is not the unified cultural story of European countries like Russia. It is the Greatest Story ever told, of God created, and it is the stories of the American Indians and the explorers, and the European settlers who came to each region and the specific people groups who settled each of those places in the North, South, East, and West which can also be broken down into each distinct cultural community that was settled within those areas. At some point every story is going to have to be analyzed, broken down, and explained. Y'all (Orthodox) do this outside of your own liturgy when you do Bible studies, and publish books explaining Chrysostom's liturgy, so there is a time a place for both- the rational (catechesis) and the experiential. Western Christianity has been retelling pagan stories for a long time. Perhaps changing a story only really works well if we truly understand the original story first?? Each war changes the story of the loser of the battle because the winner changes the loser's story. Has the Russian/European who thinks Americans are shallow missed a shared humanity? You don't know what you don't know until you know. You cannot deny Perfect Community- The Supremacy of Christ and His Father and Spirit; and expect to keep your own community intact. You cannot deny your own God given humanity and the God given humanity of other people and expect to keep your own community intact. You cannot deny the flourishing of God and your own flourishing and think that you will preserve the flourishing of your neighbor. You cannot claim to understand God's truths about the flourishing of the humanity He created while misunderstanding God Himself, and yourself, and everyone else made in God's image. Love First Things things done lightly- especially the friendship. Keep up the good work!
