Yowza! Some Hollywood location scout should see the opening minute-and-a-half of this. Looks like it’d be perfect for a horror film! 😮 Also loved the downtown - especially that “Daily News” sign and building. What a classic old sign! 😊

My whole family were born and raised in Baltimore in the 1800s-1900s. Used to be a very vibrant city, and a melting pot of neighborhoods. Time, crime, drugs, factory and port closings, and exodus to the ‘burbs and beyond have left the rot and decay behind. My grandparents raised six kids in a very small 2-story (plus a basement where the heating oil was delivered), 2-bedroom/1-bath row house. My family all eventually left decades ago, but have great memories of growing up in “Charm City.” 😢

Great opening shot: “Fun In The Sun Pools.“ Trying to imagine it in its heyday. 🙁
51
Wow. What a tragic loss of such beautiful architecture in places. That building at 08:12 must've been spectacular in its heyday. This one had so many great still shot pics throughout. The teddy bear slumped on the porch, next to the "I miss my dog" graffiti was so sad.

Wow. I’m gobsmacked. I can’t imagine what life is like for the remaining 17K+ people who still live there. Gotta admit, my heart was in my throat a little when you decided it was “time for a quick walk….” 😳 You’re a much braver person than I. The saddest part for me was seeing the two young girls on theirs scooters, outside “playing.” This is what they will remember as their childhood. 😢

I’m digging these nighttime rides. While the areas don’t look nearly as sad, depressing, and scary at night, we know that these neighborhoods are inherently even more dangerous under cover of darkness. Especially creepy, in a sad king of way, knowing that some of them may be “occupied” after dark.
33
Wow. The sheer number and size of these homes is jaw dropping. I would LOVE to see these myself, in person, but I think I’d be too afraid to even attempt it. Thanks for taking one for the team! 👍😊
29
Wow. I can only imagine the stories those large buildings by the first railroad crossing could tell, and the stories of the people who worked there. I also find the juxtaposition of a row of dilapidated, crumbling homes, next to a house that is clearly inhabited, fascinating.
27
Wow! Those homes with the golden brick fronts and wooden sides really fascinated me for some reason. So many of those houses looked huge! I wish that one street in what looked like an industrial-type area had not been closed to traffic! Would LOVE to have seen that! This one was very interesting. Had you not told us you were in the Detroit area, I never would have guessed this location.
26
Florida is such a state of contrasts. I suppose many states are, but the contrast in wealth and poverty in Florida is particularly striking to me. Thanks for another interesting vid. If I were younger and more physically able, I would LOVE to explore those abandoned homes! 😊
24
I love this channel. I have so many thoughts during each tour. The question was asked, “Would I move here?” That only makes me think of those folks who have no other choice than to stay there. My heart hurts for those folks. They, along with the houses, have been forgotten. ❤️
22
I’m so intrigued by that little street corner pop-up store. It seemed so random.
20
Those wrap around porches early in the video were gorgeous! Made the houses seem quite grand. The American flags, a symbol of pride in our country, seemed oddly out of place in front of buildings and a town that America seems to have all but forgotten.
20
That little Welcome Center. 😢
19
I will never cease to be surprised at seeing a row of completely abandoned and ruined homes, with a single home still lived in. The one at 0:50 got me. Decorative lights and kids toys outside. Right next to all that rot and decay. Quite the dichotomy.
19
What on Earth was all that pink stuff, and the lot of signs right next to it? The only signs I could read were, “I keep smiling,” and “I am afraid of people.” 😮😳 I read a story about a pink house in Wellsville, NY, but not Wellsville, OH. I’m so curious!! 😊
16
The Walking Dead. Such complicated issues and solutions in today’s world. It’s heartbreaking, and needs to be seen. 💔 Thank you for doing what you do.
14
Wow. Pretty stark contrast with your previous vids! The dichotomy is striking and hearty food for thought. Very different lives from the hoods n’ hollers. 😊
11
I don’t recall seeing many mobile homes/trailer parks in your other vids. These were some of the oldest, sorriest, and saddest mobile homes I’ve seen. I can only imagine what other trailer parks there, and around the country, must look like. 😢
11
$3.89/gal for gas?!? That’s not Brownsville…that’s Crazy Town! 😁😂😊 Also, LOVED that abandoned church in the opening shots. Very captivating at night.
11
I love the juxtaposition of dilapidated buildings with overgrown mailboxes, or "Dead End" signs, like you have here. It adds a poignancy that is palpable, knowing there were people living their lives in that very spot at one point. On a different note, I'll bet I'm not the only one of your subscribers who finds themselves yelling at you/the screen saying, "Go left! Go left! Go right! Yesssssssss!" when watching as you drive through!! 😄
10
I love that you noted it was a grim reminder of what used to be, yet still beautiful and scenic. That’s the fascination of these places for me. I see the abandoned homes and towns and wonder what their lives were like when coal was still king, but I can only guess at what life is like for the 102 that are still there. This looks like it may have been shot in the spring? I can’t imagine how desolate it looks in the middle of winter. Another great vid! 😊
9
Loved the bonus shot at the end! Gives a great visual perspective of the town. 😊
9
Was that still mail in the mailboxes outside the abandoned trailer home at the beginning of the vid? 😮
8
That brief bit of the downtown at around 2:10 was like something out of a movie - I first thought of “It’s A Wonderful Life.” I bet it looks charming at Christmas time! 😊
8
Wow, that Montgomery Wards Catalog Store was definitely from a different time. It seems the kudzu is taking over this town. Fascinating and sad at the same time.
7
David Grohl Alley was super cool! Thanks for getting out and taking us down there! Also, I like your closed captions: good font, good color, good description, and on screen for ample enough time. (I’m a closed caption fangirl.) 😊
7
So much decay of those old houses. It's amazing, though, how much house is left of those with the old tin roof. The tin roof really saves those old houses! Also, loved the drive by the cemetery. Always enjoy cemeteries and graveyards. Lots of history within them taken from the old headstones.
6
I can't imagine, in a town that small, with their economy is ruins, what it is that those left behind DO all day? Especially during the cold winter months. I about that with every vid, but especially those with so few people remaining in the town. Thanks for another good vid.
6
That train, duuuuude!! 😮 Another eye-opening video. Love your channel!
6
What a cool place. Thanks for posting this one!! I have GOT to go there!!!!! 🌭
6
Loved this vid! Hollers kinda fascinate me. They always look like something out of The Land That Time Forgot. It’s so easy to forget that this America exists alongside us. Thanks for showing us ALL the sides of America! 😊
6
I’m gobsmacked. The continued impact of the demise of the auto industry in Detroit never ceases to amaze me. At special loss is the end of spectacular architecture. “They don’t build ‘em like they used to” could not be more true for these once beautiful homes and neighborhoods. Thanks for doing what you do!
5
Thurmond has been on my bucket list! I know there's not a ton there, but so many great photo ops. How lucky you were the only one there!
4
Anybody else watch these and start yelling at the screen, “Turn right! Turn right! TURN RIGHT!!!” Then followed by a satisfied “YESSS!” 😃 or dejected “Awwwww….” accompanied by the sad trombone? 😩Yeah, me neither…. Though I did kinda want to see the Matoaka diner…. 6:50 😂
4
Digging these night vids. That 4K is amazing! What are you shooting with? And what time of night are you out? Most of the inhabited homes are dark, and there’s very little to no traffic, either vehicles or people, downtown. Also loved that big industrial plant! This is still one of my top favorite channels! 😊
4
I couldn’t even imagine living under that train trestle, though I’m sure some people would be lulled to sleep by the train’s sounds. And I THOUGHT that was an itty bitty Post Office under the trestle! (Had to rewatch that, then saw it in your description.) 😊 I often wonder about mail service in those hollers. Does it get delivered daily, door to door, or do folks just have a P.O. Box at the local Post Office? That’d be a heckuva mail route!
4
Wow. If Moon Lake’s unemployment is 164% over the National average, I wonder how these folks can afford to live there? How do they even get by? The roads surprised me. You’re riding along on a paved road then BOOM. Paved road says: “That’s it. I’m out. Dirt? It’s all yours.” What was up with the floor mats?! Crazy. And those were some serious potholes you went through. Finally, I can’t even imagine what all you’d find back there in those trees…. 😮
4
Super cool shots down the middle of the road - I felt like I was on an old street car! Also, is this the 4K cam? Stunning shots! Love the post-rain glow of the lights reflecting off the wet street. Really fun video!
3
Wow. Very interesting place and history. This video is a great study in contrasts between the haves and have-nots. I love that you also caught that freight train for a moment. One question, what on earth do you do if a car is coming from the opposite direction? Some of those roads were SO narrow! 😊
3
I had a relative stationed in Fort Benning (now Fort Moore) near Columbus back in the 60s. I wonder if any of that was Army housing at one time?
3
Wow is right! Oh, to be able to get inside the house at 6:05!
3
Love the cemetery drive-by. I really appreciate hometown cemeteries and graveyards. 👍

@hoodsnhollers P.S., I also really enjoyed your captions! 👍
