  3. Wow. What a tragic loss of such beautiful architecture in places. That building at 08:12 must've been spectacular in its heyday. This one had so many great still shot pics throughout. The teddy bear slumped on the porch, next to the "I miss my dog" graffiti was so sad.

  4. Wow. I’m gobsmacked. I can’t imagine what life is like for the remaining 17K+ people who still live there. Gotta admit, my heart was in my throat a little when you decided it was “time for a quick walk….” 😳 You’re a much braver person than I. The saddest part for me was seeing the two young girls on theirs scooters, outside “playing.” This is what they will remember as their childhood. 😢

  5. I’m digging these nighttime rides. While the areas don’t look nearly as sad, depressing, and scary at night, we know that these neighborhoods are inherently even more dangerous under cover of darkness. Especially creepy, in a sad king of way, knowing that some of them may be “occupied” after dark.

  7. Wow. I can only imagine the stories those large buildings by the first railroad crossing could tell, and the stories of the people who worked there. I also find the juxtaposition of a row of dilapidated, crumbling homes, next to a house that is clearly inhabited, fascinating.

  8. Wow! Those homes with the golden brick fronts and wooden sides really fascinated me for some reason. So many of those houses looked huge! I wish that one street in what looked like an industrial-type area had not been closed to traffic! Would LOVE to have seen that! This one was very interesting. Had you not told us you were in the Detroit area, I never would have guessed this location.

  9. Florida is such a state of contrasts. I suppose many states are, but the contrast in wealth and poverty in Florida is particularly striking to me. Thanks for another interesting vid. If I were younger and more physically able, I would LOVE to explore those abandoned homes! 😊

  11. I love this channel. I have so many thoughts during each tour. The question was asked, “Would I move here?” That only makes me think of those folks who have no other choice than to stay there. My heart hurts for those folks. They, along with the houses, have been forgotten. ❤️

  13. Those wrap around porches early in the video were gorgeous! Made the houses seem quite grand. The American flags, a symbol of pride in our country, seemed oddly out of place in front of buildings and a town that America seems to have all but forgotten.

  16. I will never cease to be surprised at seeing a row of completely abandoned and ruined homes, with a single home still lived in. The one at 0:50 got me. Decorative lights and kids toys outside. Right next to all that rot and decay. Quite the dichotomy.

  22. I love the juxtaposition of dilapidated buildings with overgrown mailboxes, or "Dead End" signs, like you have here. It adds a poignancy that is palpable, knowing there were people living their lives in that very spot at one point. On a different note, I'll bet I'm not the only one of your subscribers who finds themselves yelling at you/the screen saying, "Go left! Go left! Go right! Yesssssssss!" when watching as you drive through!! 😄

  23. I love that you noted it was a grim reminder of what used to be, yet still beautiful and scenic. That’s the fascination of these places for me. I see the abandoned homes and towns and wonder what their lives were like when coal was still king, but I can only guess at what life is like for the 102 that are still there. This looks like it may have been shot in the spring? I can’t imagine how desolate it looks in the middle of winter. Another great vid! 😊

  31. So much decay of those old houses. It's amazing, though, how much house is left of those with the old tin roof. The tin roof really saves those old houses! Also, loved the drive by the cemetery. Always enjoy cemeteries and graveyards. Lots of history within them taken from the old headstones.

At special loss is the end of spectacular architecture. “They don’t build ‘em like they used to” could not be more true for these once beautiful homes and neighborhoods. Thanks for doing what you do!

  38. Digging these night vids. That 4K is amazing! What are you shooting with? And what time of night are you out? Most of the inhabited homes are dark, and there’s very little to no traffic, either vehicles or people, downtown. Also loved that big industrial plant! This is still one of my top favorite channels! 😊

  39. I couldn’t even imagine living under that train trestle, though I’m sure some people would be lulled to sleep by the train’s sounds. And I THOUGHT that was an itty bitty Post Office under the trestle! (Had to rewatch that, then saw it in your description.) 😊 I often wonder about mail service in those hollers. Does it get delivered daily, door to door, or do folks just have a P.O. Box at the local Post Office? That’d be a heckuva mail route!
