We're adults here....or are you projecting your psychological naivety onto his father? His reasons aren't excuses except he uses them as excuses and never in 25 years chose to do better or make amends? Ya alot of old people are shut down abusive depressed and disassociated....my whole family was like thay except my mom and I basically removed all of them. Because if you stay around them you'll be shut down too unable to communicate or connect either lol. Your probably exactly the same unable to connect with yourself or others deeply inauthentic lacking authenticity. Not knowing who you are or how to communicate or connect. Thats the outcome of normalizing that behavior
