  1. A grazing bullet can't knock your shoes off. They must be uncomfortable so he takes them off. He was afraid if he left them someone would see they are 'elevator shoes' giving him an extra two inches of height. That was his big concern while a guy in back of him was shot dead and two others critically wounded.
