Just an apartment actually. Most of the property is a recreational club used by stranger. It's also rented out to companies for parties. Trump couldn't afford to maintain it as a private residence, like Post did.

@mightisright This is a commercial property, not a residence. The Town of Palm Beach allows him to live there because he swore he was an employee of the club serving as a live-in property manager. He has an apartment, not the whole mansion.

Because it can't be sold as a private residence. Trump gave that up in a permanent deed to the National Trust. He got tax write offs but now the property can only be ued as a "private recreational club". Forever. What would you pay for this property if you could only live in the apartment of the "live in property manager" and the rest of the property would be used by strangers. What Billionaire wants a house where other people swim in the pool and eat at the restaurant that was once a private dining hall?

You don't seem to realize that it was deeded to the National Trust for Historic preervation. It's a commercial property with extremely high maintenance costs. It was appraised on the basis. It's not a private home.
