  1. Unlike today, the grand mansions of the very rich had small bathrooms and closets. Today even the middle class want closets that would astound someone like Thorne. People bathed but rarely showered. It looks like Thorne's mansion did not have an elevator? Lots of stair climbing to keep you in shape.
