$1M in NYC doesn't mean you get everything you want. Far from it. But you can have some laundries pick up and deliver your clothes, washed and folded.

Rent control doesn't really exist in NYC anymore. There is rent stabilization but it doesn't apply to every building. The days of super cheap rent control apartments are long gone.

NYC apartments almost never include furniture. High end apartments have hoods with exterior venting. Others don't vent out but have hoods with filters that you clean. By building code, all kitchens must have either a vent to the building exhaust system or a window. Same with bathrooms.

@queenbee4350 It's very rare in older buildings. Sometimes the size of the drain pipes won't permit it under the building code.

It's all location. You may need to commute over an hour twice each day if you work in Manhattan and you want a really cute house/yard etc.

The neighborhood was historically the place with the most Germans. The German restaurant and butcher are very old establishments.
