  1. I have lived in much much worse! Rats, roaches, mold, broken widows etc. In the east village alphabet area there used to be many tenements with toilets in the public hallway and small bathtubs in the kitchen.

  2.  @nelsonx5326  The bathtub in the kitchen places did that because they were cold water only. To take a bath you heated water on the stove. This was true of some buildings up to the 1950's and 60's.

  3. Why don't you mention the presence/absence of air conditioning? NYC apartments get hot in the summer.
