Comments by "" (@hewitc) on "Why should you read James Joyce's "Ulysses"? - Sam Slote" video.
I read one-third then finally admitted I was lost and really didn't know who was speaking to whom. It just wasn't worth the effort for me. Ulysses may be "art" but it wasn't enjoyable. There are works that when they were written were groundbreaking and applauded for being creative. Years later they are no longer "the newest thing" and should be evaluated by tests other than how groundbreaking they were. "Creative" is not always "good". Maybe I missed the "good" of Ulysses or it went over my head. I can accept that. I tried.

@basserman Geniuses don't tell you how smart they are. Only "stable geniuses".

The second time is definitely better.

The book itself is long enough. Most people have other things to do and other books that deserve to be read. Life is short.
