Does this mentality come from a troubled/privileged childhood or is it just a genetic defect? I read a consumer Reports article about a university study that said that, using brain scans, scientists found that those who said they the brains of those who were 'conservative' when shown various pictures showed greater activitity in the area of the brain reflecting feelings of fear or threat than the brains of self-described liberals. It concluded that the conservatives are more easily frightened by things that don't scare liberals as much. Hence their need for the protection of guns? Maybe they are right? Maybe the world is scarier and more threatening than the liberal appreciate? Who is paranoid and who is naive? I guess it all depends on other factors, but I have never felt I needed a gun for protection. So far I've been correct. I am also not that afraid of immigrants who undergo unbelievable suffering to get across the US border to take menial jobs. I think my grandparents from Ireland went through a similar experience. But maybe I'm a sheeple or something??
