A lot of the DUI which stands for Driving Under the Influence. However in my experience I'm around a lot of artistic people and the works they produce when they're stoned is much better than when they're straight up. So there's that. And in my case I don't use pot/marijuana at all - but I do have inner ear issues that affect my balance and a right leg that is a bit wonky. So I'd be screwed.

And I know what MOSFET stands for Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor.

Yeah it's why I say our speed limits on highways are just that side of stupid. Cars are safer and more capable. So why are we jacked with 50MPH highway speeds? Or better - the section of I-95 in Pawtucket RI the max speed limit is now posted at 45MPH. They supposedly use 85th percentile but a lot of it is driver stupidity.

And Volkswagen Golfs and Subaru Imprezas both have that little gate on the automatic where you can sequentially shift too.

Imagine me - living in the state of Rhode Island where they not only charge a sales tax, but an excise tax every year. Moved to the state of Georgia and my mind boggles, there's no excise tax on cars anymore. Just the ad valorum tax. That makes me happy.

Police cars around here are white with blue lettering for locals, gray with black lettering for State Police.

Interestingly I have a Zipcar account. I've driven all sorts of different vehicles. One of them is the Subaru Impreza Sport. One of the first Japanese - well it was made in Indiana but first Japanese design that was stable at 80-90MPH. And I have been heard to say "This would be a fun car for rallying."

The other secret - diesel fuel and #2 heating oil are the exact same thing. Except one has a dye in it the other doesn't.
1
Let's see an Actor, a CIA Spook, a Philanderer, an Idiot, and then a Scholar and finally a Buffoon. Not a very good list of Presidents in the U.S. in recent history.
1
The funny about diesel fuel is it's nearly identical to home heating oil. Just the latter doesn't have the tax applied or the dye added.

And just wait until the states realize how they depend on tax revenue for gasoline sales when those gasoline sales dry up. Mileage taxes will kick in.

And didn't Amazon sign with RIvian to replace it's delivery vehicles? That had to help.
1
Yeah I'm a little leary about a subscription service for batteries. But then doing the math $35 a month over ten year is $4,200.

I had a Chevy Trax. I realized that the brakes could in fact be controlled by both me and the car itself. I know.

Here in RI we have three federal highways, I-95, I-195, and I-295. Now on I-95 through say Pawtucket and into Providence the speed limits are 55, 50, 45, 50, 55. It irks the shit out of me. I'm the guy who finds the least occupied lane and does 70 in it just to help skew the 85th percentile. And as you get south on I-95 the speed limit goes to 65 - but here's the thing - just two lanes. " Now I-195 is rated at 50MPH throughout. ANd I-295 is for the most part 65MPH.

Now let it be known I relocated from the Northeast U.S. to the south. Now I'd seen some accidents up north mostly single car or truck. Down here though I've seen some horrific car accidents. A jeep smacked into a bridge abutment, a five car pile up that was the space of one car. This is just in the last year or so.

Um at 11:49 Fuel is spelled wrong.

The diode is know as a rectifier. And I bet there are power regulators somewhere in there because there's LOTS of 5V stuff on cars too.
1
Well now when I drive a car if it doesn't have bluetooth connectivity I turn the radio off. Radio in the northeast is over-commercialized. Down here it's not too commercialized but I'd still prefer my own music library.
1
Now look at trains - the operator is on the right.

RI wanted to pass a law to ban handheld radios - until I wrote my rep and senator and told them they'd be preempting FCC law by doing so and set the state up for one hellish lawsuit.

What I like is they'll even monitor tire pressure too. That's pretty cool. And lots of cars now display OBD-II info in the menus. So it's all good. And I don't consider sensors to be prohibitive of self car repair.
1
Ahem a 1964 Chevy Nova could make a 90 degree turn without using the steering. I'd say that qualifies.Oh yeah and mid 90's Crown Vics had a propensity for the rear end to come around and kiss the front end.
1
The Buick Encore is just a rebadged Chevy Trax with a little better tech package.
1
It's just solenoids and possible some servos. And they've been around for years. And just think a head without a camshaft, pushrods, lifters etc. Lot simpler and cool. But electric maybe the solution overall.
1
I have a Chevy Trax - there are warning labels about high rollover risk all over it. I wonder why? Note the dripping sarcasm.
1
And I bet GM is kicking its own ass over that now.
1
What is more amusing about Land Rover/Jaguar is they're now part of Tata group - and Indian or Asian company. Fascinating.
1
Well I've driven Mazda, Nissan, Toyota, Honda and even Subaru. The last was made in Indiana in the U.S. And of course not many people know that things are rebadged everywhere.
1
I can tell you one state where they cannot do speed traps. That would be where I was born, Rhode Island. You see the RI Supreme Court in 1986 properly recognized they were fishing expeditions and nothing more. And so they banned speed and drunk driving traps.
1
Oh hell I learned how to drive a manual transmission in a vintage Ford Bronco which we nicknamed the Buckin' Bronco. Then have driven a manual Honda Civic, Toyota Pickup etc. And the reasons people eschew manual transmissions is the traffic thing, and not knowing how to drive one.
