Yeah I know. Intersting, banging donuts out and he could replicate the issue twice. Here's a story of mine, a 1967 Pontiac GTO. The Rhode Island School for the Deaf at the time had a huge parking lot - all wide open. So we take the car down there to do some donuts. We had our fun and we're rolling back up the hill to get out of the lot. What's coming down the hill, a Providence cop. The car is full of tire smoke, you can see the donut ring lifting off the ground. Cop was like smells like an electrical problem. We went on our way.

Oh wow - that was impressive. Good on you for wasting a scammers time though. I figure if enough of us did that the scammers would soon realize it's not a lucrative career choice.
4
Oh hell I've put a few thousand miles on a rental too. They accept it no issue.

I recently relocated to the Atlanta Metro area and my good friend told me - if you have any out of state plates on your vehicle after six months Georgia DOR will come after you. And the state I left - they taxed on KBB values. I'm sorry - but cars are personal property and as such should not be taxed. And you could always file suit against the state. :)

Ah, see we used go up to the White Mountain in New Hampshire. Beautiful up there too.
3
I blew a tire with a Dodge Van - at 80MPH. That was interesting. And regards the truckers - no easy countermeasure for that.

Damn - my father wasn't a car guy in the traditional sense. He was more into the luxury of the car than the power of it. However the proudest moment was watching him grab a Catholic priest by the neck. The priest in question was a prick so fully deserving of what happened to him.

Here in Rhode Island traffic violations are a civil offense, not criminal.
2
One trick I've learned up here in the northeast - if you have commercial plates on a vehicle you can pretty much park ANYWHERE you want.
2
Wow - a Merkur - Ford's "European" 4 cylinder wonder. But you had a good run in AMS. Congrats on that.
2
Yup I learned long ago you attract more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. That being said - never broken bones. Oh no. I've been stitched back together quite a few times though. To the point where by the 2nd time I asked for the removal scissors and took my own stitches out. I could probably put it in too - but I will say that drug they inject - numbs everything nicely.

My first was an AMF Bicycle - I put a speedo on it. From that I learned two things. A) I put 1,500 miles on that bike in one summer and B) You can in fact get a bicycle up to 75MPH with good hills. From there I got a 1976 Pontiac Trans Am with a 455 and a 4 speed manual. Too much for a 16 year old. Tires were pretty pricey for that baby. But it was gorgeous. And friends had GTO's, Chargers, Camaro etc.

Interesting they knew about the tracking. I had my car stolen but the stupid kid didn't know it was tracked. Ah well he won't show his face around here anymore. Oh and nowadays cameras are ubiquitous. Somewhere I bet there's video of the perp that stole the Mercedes.
2
Wow - great tale!
2
This story is why I hope we figure out limb regeneration sooner than later. The joy of driving a stick can't be replaced.
2
You know, you guys pretty much have a think tank. Turn it toward legislation. Pass a law that says effective immediately all speed limits on Interstates are raised to 80MPH. Make it so the right lane can be a minimum of 45MPH, left lane for 80MPH. Look, cars are much more capable in the 21st century - why the hell are we still stuck in most urban areas to 45-55MPH?

That or a heads up call to the card provider or bank is worth it's weight in gold. Me, I buy lots of stuff from India and China. I've already told my bank those are the main countries I do business with.
2
Tavarish makes a good point - some way of vetting people who know vs. the commonality. I see that in my field, pure I.T./I.S. and dealing with tech support makes my head hurt.
2
Oh My 2019 Chevy Trax was stolen. Stupid kid who stole it didn't know that all you have to do is call the police and then call OnStar. Had the car back a couple hours later. The kid had the fob for the car I won't go into that. But I asked the dealership how much to reprogram new fobs - $400. I foudn two fobs for a fraction and ordered them. Reprogrammed it myself.

I just thought of something. You could use a bunch of FRS radios - native antennas on them go 3 to 5 miles. But change out the antenna for one with 3-6db of gain and fun times can be had. Keep a CB of course so you can LISTEN to the truckers. Oh and a lot of the cops use APCO P25 radios - that can be forced out of encryption by a modified IM-ME toy.
2
I am so fortunate - I have a sixth sense about cops. Sounds like your friend had that sense too. In fact so fortunate I've been doing 85MPH on I-95 in the rain and look in the rear view - I see a State Police cruiser - he just moved left and passed me.

One movie in which that specific RV was used was Stripes. There's a theme for the next run. Here's the RV in question: https://youtu.be/bENF08EyIck

Actually it's corruption.
1
I couldn't ever use a radar jammer. Why? Because see the letters in my youtube name. Yep I hold an Amateur Extra class license and also have a commercial radio license too.
1
The whole lemon law thing I'm well aware manufacturers will produce lemons now and then. Chrysler for example.
1
Wow - Venezuela is a mess. I worked with a girl who left there many years ago and the stories she told were scary. It hasn't gotten any better it seems.
1
Oh hell my welcome to the Atlanta region was a $400 payment to clear what was a cop I pissed off. {Sigh}.
1
Oh great story. And guess what guys I'm in Georgia permanently now. About 18 miles from Atlanta.
1
If the shipping company was UPS you do know that one of their nicknames is Shit Wrapped in Chiffon. Seriously I have a deep hatred of that company.
1
Oh my favorite in Florida. I was in Orlando and going to points out further - I think it was SR-538. I opened it up in a Lincoln Continental - unmarked trooper got me at 120MPH. He was ok though, dropped it to 70MPH and it was on my FL part time license so never hit my record up here.
1
Oh there's one yokel in North Carolina that probably still remembers me. And I bet he still remembers that waving the flashlight like that means go, not stop.
1
Hmm - nearest McLaren facility to me is in Philidelphia - a mere 4:40 hours from here.
1
I have a serious question - how the hell do you screw up a manual gearbox? It's just a bunch of gears and synchros and shifting forks. That's all.
1
Oh as kids the cops never bothered us. I found out why when my grandfather died. You see the year I was born he retired from being a police officer himself. He was the guardian angel for me and my friends. He knew everyone on the force.
1
As a kid we had Camaro, GTO, Charger, Nova, etc. The Charger was gorgeous in a nice blue - that one got wrapped around a telephone pole. The GTO - that was funny. We were doing donuts in the RI School for the Deaf parking lot. One time we do the donuts, the smoke is wafting from the ground. We start going up the hill and there's a Providence cop coming down. The car was full of the tire smoke. Cop looks in the car and said "Smells like a wire burning." Meanwhile the cloud of smoke on the ground is wafting ever higher into the air.
1
Well - ebay jumped the shark around 2006 so there's that. Out of curiosity did you change your internet provider?
1
You want to screw with radar you gotta a) run power and b) be able to tune it properly.
1
An anesthesiologist and tax fraud, and M.D. and Medicare fraud. What is it with doctors?
1
I'm not a speed demon. Oh no - mine is more interesting - i got charge with failure to keep right and unsafe right turn. The whole thing was stupid. But I got diverted int he process and got to pay $390 to wipe it off my record.
1
I wonder if movie Stripes had an impact. That was a heavily modified GMC RV.
1
My Chevy Grad was once stolen.I knew it was tracked by OnStar. They didn't tell me where it was but told the police. Needless to say I never paid tor on star but I got my car back.
1
Yeah I've got stories. Vehicular hijinks galore.
1
Whoa - 96MPH on that run. Nice!
1
An x-ray machine isn't all that radioactive. The tube is only emitting when a current is passing through it. It's funny I was at my dentists office and the woman was having a hard time positioning the x-ray head. I explained the plastic casing probably deformed from all the heat generated by the tube.

One thing you can do on cars, trailers etc. is have brass plates engraved with your name and phone number and rivet them all over the both the car and trailer. No question as to WHO owns said car and trailer at that point.

Uh huh - we in the northeast can drive in a foot plus of snow. Ice on the other hand requires severely reduced speed, studs or chains, and don't stop if you don't have to do so. Now where we completely fail is with dry roads or light dustings of slippery snow. The level of stupid is astounding.Oh and my interesting snow story - I was 16 - there was a snowstorm. Highways were clear so I went to Lincoln Mall on Rte. 116 in Lincoln, RI. Getting there no problem in a 1976 Mercury Monarch - coming back however - 116 wasn't completely good - a little slippery. I sent the car right into the huge snow bank next to the Route 146 on-ramp. Got it down, whole engine compartment was packed in snow. Car still ran though.
1
My very first car was a 1976 Pontiac Trans Am - it was brown with a golden chicken the hood. Had a 455 coupled to a 4 speed manual transmission. Too much fun for a 16 year old I'll tell you that.
1
There are some cool cops out there. Some. But they're surrounded by what I term assholes. Around here you can't get past 100MPH on the highways because there's just so much stupid on the roadways. And I almost hate to mention this but you wouldn't have been shot - you're a white guy.
1
I will mention - cops live or die by using the radio - and you can't do the speed of light so no chance of outrunning it. And I'm prohibited from using RF countermeasures, not because I did something but because I've got my amateur extra class license and commercial licenses with the FCC.
