And if you consider who owned Jaguar - the door lighting being like Ford is likely due to when Ford owned it. And it's British personality is weird as I believe Tata owns Jaguar now.
2
You forgot to mention one key thing about the ElDorado - it in addition to the Oldsmobile Toronado, and Buick Rivieira of the same generation were front wheel drive.
2
The ride is so smooth - from Little Red Corvette by Prince. That being said, I've driven one other German brand - a Volkswagen Golf TSi and one Bavarian the BMW X3. Both machines designed to fly on the highway.
2
Ok, $50K for that one in cherry condition yeah. I searched Craigslist near me - lots of beat RX-7's for about $3K.
2
I know, I know. It looks interesting but it's a GM product with all the attendant features and annoyances. But having know accountants who worked for GM since the 1980's I can tell you every GM vehicle is built to a price point. And lane follow, collision avoidance, blind spot monitoring and and parking assists is just GM trying out autonomous features. And I gotta wonder how it holds value - I strongly suspect a 2015 used would go for about $15K.
2
Interesting, it has a lot of features in common with my 2019 Chevy Trax. Of course my Trax serial starts with K for Korea - that's where it was manufactured.
2
A few years ago I got to drive an X3. Loved it. But then maintaining it would be pretty pricey.
2
Here's the thing it seems the definition of luxury in Soviet Russia was um, sort of plain jane.
2
Actually looking at the dash cluster it's the same used in the Volkswagens. Makes sense of course since Audi is owned by Volkswagen.
1
Consider too who owns Kia - it's Hyundai.
1
I bought a 2019 Chevy Trax. I gotta say for the price (< $20K) it's fairly well optioned. For example automatic lights, push button start, bush button unlock, remote start, power windows, power locks, power drivers seat etc. And i did option the one built in South Korea as opposed to one built in Mexico.
1
Just the excise tax on that alone would be obscene. For example 181 * 60 = $10,860 first year excise at full value. That's $2715 per quarter. Of course they're trying to abolish the excise tax in the state.
1
Recycled Plastic Drink Bottles is a euphemism for those two famous designers, Poly and Ester or Polyester.
1
Well it's the White Death From the Sky in New England today. So I bet this storm tracks in your area too.
1
And then there's the old joke, what's the difference between a porcupine and a Porsche? On a porcupine the pricks are on the outside.
1
What are the buttons on the back of the drivers side visor?
1
I learned to drive a manual transmission on a Ford Bronco II.
1
Well consider they were merged with Chrysler at the time. Disastrous for both Chrysler and Daimler-Benz. That to me is a huge drawback.
1
Regards snow tires - ever since they banned studs where I live it's useless. That said you can drive in the snow with all season tires. They key is move slowly, and don't stop for anything.
1
I find myself perplexed that I'm replying to a dead man. Yes, German cars are designed for the Autobahn - you know, the German highways that were the inspiration for our interstate highway system in the United States. Except in Germany there are sections of the Autobahn with no speed limit. Plus construction of those highways in Germany is MUCH better than here in the U.S.
1
Remember when International Harvester produced the Scout? Or maybe the Bronco II on which I learned how to drive a manual transmission.
1
I've driven a bunch of Mazda 3's of the IIIrd gen. Loved them.
1
It's still a GM product which makes me extremely leery. However the tech is pretty cool. I'd love to see how it deals with highways around here - I-95 is a charlie foxtrot.
1
Now if Cadillac wanted to find its way again - take those old body styles, maybe enhance the handling, chuck the IC engine, put in electric motors front and back and a huge battery pack. I'd buy one of those.
1
Well if you've driven a Toyota Sienna with just front wheel drive I will tell you that you can in fact get the wheels to chirp.
1
I know where the hyrdo pneumatic system comes from. Recall the Citroen DS. Another car I thought was interesting. Oh yeah under the hood why is there a diode symbol? And I do wish they sold Citroens in the U.S. Hell all we got was Renault and actually still have as they own Nissan.
1
Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
1
I must ask - who the hell spends over $100,000 on a U.S. made vehicle? Or branded. Take your pick. And I wonder how much one of these babies will go for say in year 3.
1
Kind of like registered a normal car in RI. Be prepared to spend 1.5 hours.
1
My favorite is the BMW X3. Drove one a few years ago and wow. In eco mode it moved, in sport mode it approached ludicrous fun.
1
I wonder if the IVECO underpinings are responsible for the rough ride.
1
I'll tell you what you get when you buy a $1.7 million dollar car - a tax bill where I live that would be $102,000 your first year, plus $119,000 in sales tax. That's insane.
1
Want to know the interesting one. The lighting sentinel is now the AUTO setting on the headlight of my Chevy Trax. Oh yeah and I found out the Buick Encore I believe is the same body so giving my Chevy new features should be fairly easy.
1
Wow you're really gushing about this vehicle. I can explain why, it's German. Some really good engineering comes out of Germany.
1
Interesting - I know Scotty Kilmer doesn't like VW's at all. Says they're unreliable. I've driven a 2016 and 2017 Golf and gotta say they're fun to drive. But the price for the Type R is too much - I'd pay $5460 in taxes the first year. That's 13%. So I don't think I'd be buying one. And I'd stay far away from the Focus RS if only because the engines have a propensity to eat head gaskets for breakfast.
1
One thing I note - that looks shockingly like a Japanese K car.
1
Loved the dig at FIAT-Chrysler - with regard to the hood latch. That was too funny.
1
That deep dashboard is even on the the 2017 Honda Odyssey mini-van. https://youtu.be/t09EeStgFOU
1
Last BMW I drove was an X3 - that was fun. I think that's what BMW is good at, making a car fun. Sure they're expensive to fix but hey if you have the money.
1
The only thing that would give me pause about purchasing one of these is that it's a Chrysler product. You know, FCA. Sorry I've driven fairly recent Jeep products and they were horrible.
1
Wow - yeah I'm not a fan of Chrysler or should I say Fiat-Chrysler products. They reek of cheapness. A few years ago I rented a Jeep - it was the most stupidly optioned, poorly assembled vehicle I've ever driven. Of course I've driven a few Ford products and their transmissions are garbage. So I ended up buying a GM Product, one produced in South Korea as a matter of fact. And it's power everything except for the passenger seat. But he at least GM admits most of their vehicles will be driven by one. And it's a little turbocharge I-4LUV engine and one thing I know, there's no timing belt but it does have a chain. Oh glory be.
1
I wonder - $65K new - how much will it be worth say in 3 years? Maybe $15K?
1
I've gotten to drive recent vintage Odyssey's and Sienna's. What amuses me most is you can chirp the tires on both.Causes great annoyance on the part of my SO. Meanwhile I'm giggling.
1
You have to consider, who would want to steal a Mirage?
1
I had a 1993 Ford Tempo that had fully automatic lap and shoulder belts.
1
I wonder what pricing on the SUV is going to be. I think I'd prefer that. But I'd have the R1T too. I like.
1
Plus GM/Chevy didn't exactly market the car. That amazes me.
1
@antoniojmonetti Yes indeed. Plus there's the make sticker on the inside the drivers side door that says GM Korea, plus the windows have GM KAC or Korea Assembly Corp. So it's Korean through and through.
1
Just for a giggle, when new this car would cost $21,000 in vehicle excise taxes per year.
1
And in 3 to 5 years you'll be able to buy one for $15K. Because U.S. made cars depreciate like crazy.
