  1. Sir, Ma'am, Madam - that's what I learned a long time ago. Most respectful salutations. Or I can default to Spanish Senor, Senora, Senorita, Usted, Ustedes, etc. And if it's less formal, dear or darling or Mister etc. Easy. Did I mention I'm in my 50's - and if anyone other than the person I love called me honey, sweetie, baby etc. they're gonna get popped for it.

  3.  @mfmageiwatch  Dear in my view is acceptable. A formal business letter starts with the term so there's that. Honey implies sweetness and so on. Dear does not.

  4.  @mfmage  Yes of course. I've always felt a little uncomfortable using it to start a letter though.
