  1. What particularly stands out to me is when I visit my parents. The TV is often on and the pure cancer that streams out of it. The same shows, stuck int he same frame, interrupted by the same brain-washing commercials, all trying to evoke a sense of integrity and positivity with their sooth reassuring narrator voices. My parents don't pick up on it. They grew up with that constant bombardment of people trying to get you to behave in a certain way. But to me it's like nails on a chalkboard.

  2. Exactly. If people are interesting enough to listen to then you don't need a surrogate noise machine to make up for the lack of conversation. That said, these new intelligent TV's today allow everyone to drop Youtube video to the screen, everything gets automatically added on playlists. Still not better than actual conversation but already far more superior to have wacky decentralized entertainment than mainstream TV. Last week we were all laughing at that Berkely Pepsi challenge guy. In a way the TV becomes an extension of the conversation. People throw in content they want to share to their friends, and everyone gets to bounce their thoughts on it until someone else throws a new video.
