I'm a fervent atheist but these days I'm starting to see some mythological value in the Christian scripture. It gave us Paradise Lost, it gave us Inferno, lots of amazing artwork and literature are derived from the Bible as is the Bible derived from even more ancient mythology dating back to Babylon, Sumeria and Egypt. There's something truly epic going on there, even if only taken as fiction.
Even cooler is Hinduism, Buddhism and Taoism. Fantastic tales, wise verses.
But Islam? I've been reading the Quran, but I just don't get it, where's the wisdom? Where's the poetry or the sense of meaning in that? It's just one big circlejerk and micro-managing day to day chores. The Hadiths are even worse. I'm not even considering the barbaric stuff, just the rest, it's just tedious. Should I've read it in original Arabic? If so, then why doesn't the Bible suffer from the same translation difficulties from the original Greek?
