Her music is a direct response to Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, their glitter corny bombast dominated pop music for way too long and there were way too many artists trying to make it more ridiculous until Billie (or rather, her brother) just went with the dark, edgy and experimental. Which isn't just refreshing but it also broke a lance for many other artists who now get to be dark, edgy and experimental again.
