  12. Most of the fracking hype came during the high oil price period. Fracking was the easiest way to secure return on investment because it could be done everywhere. And in case it would go wrong you could file bankruptcy and leave the local authorities with the mess. It's one of the biggest sectors for banks to invest in. That's why we heard so much propaganda about it. How safe it was, how much we needed it for our economy (IE their portfolios) and so many impressive looking studies saying it's all fine. Now the oil price collapsed all the starting shale projects went down under and today it's open season on fracking, proponents are silent because there's no more money to be made in it. The sad part is that we're so easy to forget all of this and should the oil price (or any natural resource) climb again we're going to be buying into the same bullshit again.

  20. She oversimplified. QE (Q2 to Q4)never was a bailout. They're all capital injections with the hopes of trickle down stimulating the economy. Yet that didn't happen. The QE wealth went to real estate, stock, and other investments while the real economy remains sputtering. To use QE and inject it at the bottom of society makes a whole lot of sense. At the bottom people will directly spend the money on their needs and that capital will go straight to (small) businesses that contribute to society.

Most people want to work any job, even the menial ones, provided the wage is adequate. let's separate this from ordinary bigotry. Immigration is still used as a tool to keep labour cheap. Supply and demand, increase labour supply and it's price drops. If Americans don't want to work at a farm for 15$ an hour then that means the wage is simply still too low. Locals are entirely right in saying that immigrants undercut their negotiation position.
