  1. The government is offering them a farmland price. Not a housing development price. That's at least 50 times less than their land is worth.

  2. Farmland is cheap. When it's allocated for housing, the value goes up by about 50 times the price. The government doesn't want to pay that type of money. So instead they apply far too strict and inconsistent nitrogen regulations on the farmer in the hope they'll sell their land for cheap so it can be flipped at a huge profit. The Dutch government doesn't even hide that they're using the nitrogen pollution to 'clear out' the farmland. And if there were still any doubt, they're not applying the same nitrogen regulation for any other sectors, like industry and air traffic.

  3. Ammonia isn't even a greenhouse gas. Nitrogen dioxide, which is an emission that doesn't come from the farmers, is a greenhouse gas and the Dutch government doesn't care about that as that would inconvenience their precious industries.
