  1. Notice how she artfully replaces 'correlation' with 'connection' between truancy and all the bad stuff. That's a correlation, that does not mean one causes the other, it can mean that both have a confounding or mediating variable. It can mean that the bad stuff causes truancy. That's why scientists always warn policymakers not to merely address correlating factors, without a proven causal link they can end up making matters worse.
