Mao's cultural revolution was able to overwhelm the largest population on the planet with much ease. This was largely because the academics were able to cultivate a political momentum without outside meddling, and also because the rest of the population was illiterate. Critical Theorists dream of another cultural revolution, but they don't enjoy the benefits that Mao had. They do have the corporations and HR departments on their side, which is significant, but it might not be enough now that their theory is out in the open.
