I call this strategy a 'clutter bomb'. Rapidly unpacking all the concepts on the table, even the onest hat people are ready to cede so everything gets stuck. Sam did a great job at repackaging everything into ways that Eric would agree with but he shouldn't have had to exert so much effort into it in the first place.

@nealorr5086 Eric had one great point, which is that it matters in whom's frame you enter the discussion about this conflict, because most frames already have a fixed outcome. However, Sam already tacitly agreed on that, even if he didn't understood what Eric was saying. Sam already picked the frame which would lead to the most leverage on the situation so there was no need for Eric to contest every definition.

I missed level-headed Sam. He nailed it in 2014 and he fleshed it out even further in this talk. I can't figure out why he's so conceited about almost everything else.

@FknAzzMuncher Covert means discrete, not making it a spectacle. Taking out ring leaders behind the scenes. If Eric understood what Sam was saying he wouldn't need to ask whether or not the such missions would need to be deniable because the moment they need to be deniable they're already a spectacle. Great example of Eric jumping the gun.

@jeffk464 That would be an entirely different topic. The point is that even in a discussion where two people largely agree, a conversation can go lopsided if one of them refuses to take an assertive stance and merely criticises the other for taking one. Konstantin figured that asymmetry out and rebalanced it with a single sentence. That's impressive.

I've followed his moves over the years. People say the breaking point was Trump but something else was going on. He entered into social media fights with seriously bad faith actors, all on the Left by the way. And at some point they just managed to break him. As if he decided that those people were no longer worth contesting with and instead he started placating them. It was remarkable to see him voice hope that this was the inflection point for progressive colleges, it kind of betrayed that he sees them as a threat from which he still has to escape in order to freely speak his mind.
