As long as we live in a society that values non-sentient beings like undevelopped embryos more than sentient beings like the mammals we eat, there's no point in setting ground-rules regarding bio-engineering. I suggest we take heed to Peter Singers 'Practical Ethics' and apply those before we really get into the ground rules of bio-ethics.
