  1. In regards to the properties of the virus itself we've been rather lucky. It's very easy to imagine a virus that could take a much greater toll on society. COVID19 targets elderly and vulnerable people. Which is tragic. But imagine a virus that causes a brain infection rather than a respiratory infection. Or a virus that predominantly targets children and young people (like the normal flu but more contagious). Right now millions will die and it strains our economy. But the malaise doesn't extend further than that. We won't see the next generation wiped out or burdened by a lasting impairment.
