yeah business cards are a serious part of your identity. It used to be done like that in China, it's why Japan follows it as well, but China lost that culture after the cultural revolution erased it all. I think Hong kong, Macau, Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam still recognizes such practice.

disrespectful is defined differently in different cultures. they mentioned in the video about a chinese mainlander letting his kid pee on the side of the street. in some countries, a man peeing outside somewhere hidden is an ok thing. in Japan deep in the cities, of course, it would be unthinkable for them.

@part-timedevil I think the problem came up because normally they ship the garbage and recyclable stuff to China but China recently banned it all so it went to Philippines and Malaysia, but don't worry Duterte is just joking when he said he'd declare war. He's that kind of old grumpy man people elected to act tough and say all kinds of controversial things because the popular common people on the streets would agree with him rather than any prim and proper old politician, unbeknownst to the world that people outside of the country would not understand his humor. In that video where Duterte said that, beside him his fellow man laughed, but on the other side, the lady beside him was former president Gloria who was silently thinking how the world would comprehend what he just said.

that lady who was talking about smiling at the philippines. i think these days we just tend to smile and giggle at people as some form of lightening up the mood. some decades ago, i dont think it was common place to do this here.
