here in maritime southeast asia, theres a history of chinese families rising in prominence as the rich wealthy landowning or merchant class. sometimes theres a bit of tension to how each sees each other here but in my country, the philippines, its not a big thing and increasingly dissipating. might be worse the tensions in indonesia and malaysia though since they have riots and movements there.
