  1. this is a very old issue started ever since marcos's time. i dont think it will change any time soon since all the uncertainties, problems, and arguments about it are still there. this term is a very old precolonial noble class term which obviously highlights the elite. in some languages, it also sounds like similar words that i think meant toilet or something dirty. and the economic, cultural, societal cost of changing identity with a very established philippines, pilipinas, pinoy, filipinas, filipino term is quite high. only few support this, usually those who aim to wipe clean and forget all the recent centuries' history...

  2.  @andirizaladiputra7333  no no there is a bit of confusion here with linguistics. maharlika, yes is from sanskrit and has cognate term with merdeka in bahasa melayu and bahasa indonesia but you guys use it as an adjective to describe independence like a country's sovereignty. in philippine languages like tagalog, we use maharlika as a noun because it is a noble class title. maharlika represented the feudal middle class elite of ancient states like Tondo because it meant kinda like prosperous freeman. the adjective meaning of maharlika is noble and aristocratic. this is why there was an event before such as the conspiracy of the maharlikas in early spanish colonial times because the remaining maharlika nobles wanted to overthrow the spaniards but failed.

  4.  @Daybr3ak1991  no no the -lika part is not from likha. maharlika is from maharddhika (महर्द्धिक) pronounced and heard from precolonial filipino ears. a term used in indianized state functions about the social classes
