I was born and raised in Frankfurt Main. I left the city for a small village in Rheinhessen. Foreigners in Frankfurt often have no interest for local culture, at night the are many no-go areas, for my wife felt unsecure to go out alone in the evening. Crowded streets like Leiziger you will find the half of a pizza thrown at the street. At night 3 am. your neighbour will have a nose of coke and will have a party, no matter if you got to go work at 5 am. So have a little conversation about Hauptbahnhof at night, where not even police officer feel comfortable.

Yes. And while reading the emails you ask yourself "Where is the point? What does he want? Where are the hooks?". It takes more energy to decode it, than telling the facts.

To keep sunday as a rest day, is an important aspect. Have a restful sunday! ;)

As german I worked 10 years in switzerland. First it was annoying to ask in every email how the weekend was and hoping the children are well and wishing a good start for the week.... The critics was the same after all.

I worked for 10 years Switzerland. There are cultural and semantic differences in professional interaction. If the meeting is in berndütsch language, it will have another atmosphere and sometimes result than in plain german. Swiss coworkers always ask how the children are, before they tell you that your new modifications made a mess in the data structure over the weekend. Especially if a sentence ends with "odr?" you should be careful. It's not a question of confirmation, like "Isn't it?" It's just the order not to contradict now. ;)

Btw. Germany is an important transit country for goods and passenger traffic in Europe, Great Britain is known to be an island. Of course you need other infrastructures, road connections and railway lines.

There several stages for workplace heroes: 1) find the mistake and name it 2) make suggestions to avoid it in the future 3) change or install a process to avoid these mistakes in the future. If your criticism is solution driven and it's not personalised, if you see a mistake as a result and you work for a solution and embetterment of a product, you produce quality. I think critics is a matter of containment in courtesies, it's a task to work on it.

I will have a walk with the dogs and afterwards I will sit in the beergarden under the Linden trees. A famous old song about resting under Linden sung: "Und seine Zweige rauschten, als riefen sie mir zu Komm her zu mir, Geselle, hier findst du deine Ruh Hier findst du deine Ruh"

@peter_meyer Right. 1b) Never ever try to hide your mistakes from others or to belittle the consequences.

I can only speak for my company. There, formalities (dress code, the formal "Sie", fixed working hours, on place work were largely abolished. They are open to recruit (and look out for ) female managers, look for "nerds", and are LGBTQ+ friendly. What has been sharpened are social and communicative skills, the ability to take criticism, suitability as a team player, and support other team members to be successful. This is checked very carefully. Do you need a job in Frankfurt? ;)

Good morning! Yes, unfortunately. This direct approach to express criticism now often goes through the bosses. The employees shift disagreements three management levels up and half-truths and rumors often come back from there. This avoids direct differences of opinion, but the workload with trivialities is shifted upwards.

;) In welcher Sprache träumst du jetzt?

Right now I'm sitting in the garden on a bench in the shade and I'm happy about the many young sparrows that are making a loud chatter and flapping noise. The dogs lie in the shade and wait for the evening to go for a walk. Real relaxation and rest seems trivial. No, I don't have to bungee jump into any ravines.

Καλως ηρθατε.

In germany employers are forced by law to allow holidays in one block, otherwise he need good reasons.

No jokes. In modern companies the fast track to the exit. In our IT we have a lot of female IT-managers, they do a fantastic job. I 've seen many overbearing and arrogant males cleaning up their desk. So it's no good idea to beliitle females in telefone conferences.

Yes, you're right. Two weeks at least: Bundesurlaubsgesetz Paragraph 7.2: (2) The vacation is to be granted consecutively, unless there are urgent operational or personal reasons for the employee to split the vacation. If the vacation cannot be granted consecutively for these reasons and the employee is entitled to vacation of more than twelve working days, one of the vacation parts must comprise at least twelve consecutive working days.

So let's say, like Rolls Royce informed about the horsepowers of the new modell: "sufficient". ;)

Above all, it shows how advantageous and enriching it is simply to live in or travel to another country.

All the best wishes for 2023. Die deutsche Sprache kennt keinen plural für das Wort "Heimat". Dennoch kann ein Mensch viele "Heimaten" haben. Zum Glück musst Du Dich ja nicht entscheiden. ;)

There's a lot changing regarding talking about money and status in germany. I lived in switzerland for 10 years and it was pretty common to congradulate a neighbour for his nice new car. In germany the always the hidden question resonates as to how he was able to afford it again. It's still unconfortable to talk with colleages or strangers about salaries and money.

Hmm, better companies have a "Fehlerkultur" a cultur to handle mistakes and questions like "Who was it?" Are the least interesting. Even your Senior chief will listen to your suggestions, if your work style is appreciated. Never underestimate your senior chief. He looks very careful what kind of coworker you are. Mostly after two weeks he knows the limitations of your personal development.

So if Frankfurt is so rated, why young families desperately try to move to suburbs. Tell 'em about the rats in Franfurt the drug addicts at Kondtablerwache, cultural incompatible foreigners who live for decades from public care.

Greece offers great tax conditions for pensioners.

Regions like wales or the scots have a special f..k westminster layer as well.

Yes. But why does it feels like a broken record here?

Andang der 90er war es noch harmlos: "Das macht keinen Sinn." Das war bis dahin nicht üblich. ;)

Correction: .. "it's NOT a matter of containment in courtesies"

@indrinita Most people who come to Germany are happy that they saved their warm bodies. Few highly skilled workers. But there are language courses and opportunities to learn a trade. Compare this with the situation in Denmark and Sweden, where integration has failed. It was certainly not due to financial help, social exclusion at work and in society caused this criminal subculture. The Germans are also required to enable the newcomers to integrate.

At least peace of mind.
