  1. There's a lot changing regarding talking about money and status in germany. I lived in switzerland for 10 years and it was pretty common to congradulate a neighbour for his nice new car. In germany the always the hidden question resonates as to how he was able to afford it again. It's still unconfortable to talk with colleages or strangers about salaries and money.
