Thank you Anna. I had to watch this video a third time because the content is important and I need time to reflect on what I've seen.
The desperate search for the good Russians also has its reasons in the West's incomprehension. It is simply inconceivable that the majority of Russians lack empathy or at least compassion. How can it be that many Russians actually welcome this war, see it as overdue and hope that war will improve their social situation?
What is also incomprehensible is the acceptance of Russian imperialism. During the Chechen wars nobody said anything, during the occupation of parts of Georgia, during the war in Syria, even when Russia occupied Crimea, it was always difficult to find good Russians. All you saw were small demonstrations by opposition groups, individual "dissidents", sometimes critical ex-oligarchs, but never an attempt to bring about changes in the power structures.
And what struck me the third time I watched the video was the voluntary support of many Westerners in Russian propaganda. The left in Europe in particular is clinging to the stereotypes of the Russian soul and the ban on thinking. As a German, you can't have a bad opinion of Russia, not after the terrible Second World War.
