@mariabykofsky4502 You have it backwards. The North was doing well due to industrialization. The south hung on to slavery and they lagged behind. The leaders kept making policies that were bad for the south on top of it, like tariffs on cotton that effected them. Slavery was just the last straw and the point was about the leaders not keeping their promises with past Compromises and the South saw it as them taking their property. Even then, that all just caused a split. Not the war. The war came later. Due to states rights. The South believed they had the right to secede. And Lincoln started a war with them over it.

@adamtedder1012 I said tariffs and Idk why you think that makes a point. They fired the first shot because the North tried taking their fort. Lol Some say that this was on purpose to push them to fire first. It was from numerous reasons. It was years in the making.

@adamtedder1012 It was their fort. Lol They seceded and it was on their land. At least that is how they saw it. All of this is irrelevant to the conversation.

@thefutureisnowoldman7653 No, states rights to secede from the Union. Slavery was just one factor of numerous that had been building over time. The gov broke their Compromise. The North was making policies that was actively harming the South economically, like cotton tariffs. Etc. Then, you have to look at it through their lens. They thought that was their property. So, they saw it as the gov taking their property. Even still, that was only 1 factor. Factors that led to the secession. The war came later. It was due to them leaving the Union. States rights.
