Lived in Beijing for 3 years from 06-09 and I can count on one hand the amount of people that 'hated america'. More than anything they were just curious and scared of a conflict. Please make sure we all separate a countries citizens from their governments! Farthest west I got was Linfen, and everyone thought I was Russian for some reason. I did feel like Brad Pitt though. People mid-wedding came over and asked me to join their marriage pictures lol. Im so jealous of your ability to communicate. I could listen ok, but speaking was hard. I never could master the four tones. And reading/writing? Impossible lol.

@noahmaas1670 Some places really are a travel risk, I recommend to avoid going to Egypt for the pyramids, thats for sure. But 90% of the time you'll be just fine. Iran and Turkey are great examples of this. Some of the safest places on Earth but because of their governments they get a very bad rap, but the people are so so so so nice.

@jackyjackson604 Yes you can! Especially in a place like Iran or China. Mostly they despise their own governments, so why would I hold it against them if they dont like it either?

AliExpress is ok but TEMU scares me.

this has got to be SO FUN. Im so jealous of you though. I lived in Beijing for two years as an expat student at Tsinghua University. I tried learning the language for a year straight there, and some more time after. I got to the point where I cuold barely hold a conversation, but nothing to this degree, and the reading/writing always was too much for me. Im so amazed you can learn languages so quickly, especially something like Chinese. Its so hard!!

USA is not one nation, its 50 nations!

Have you ever gone to Iceland and tried to speak Icelandic? I heard its the hardest language on Earth (actually) to learn. Side note, what a stunningly beautiful country.

I lived in Beijing for two years and by teh end of it I was pretty decent at Mandarin, enough to listen and understand well. Speaking was a bit worse but still, I could communicate. The pure amazement from vendors when I argued back in Chinese was so priceless!!!

exactly! :)

Non Americans just dont understand how HUGE America really is. Some areas of the countries ARE a different country practically. Theres so much history in this country because of the different types of people that came here originally! Also alligator is the the most tame 'exotic' meat ever. It really does taste extremely similar to chicken.

I lived in China for three yeras, never really got that good speaking Mandarin (its hard!!). But I knew enough to order at a restaurant decent enough. I got free food sooooo much, not so much from restaurants, but frmo street vendors and street restaurants. They are so excited a laowai can speak their language, sometimes they even invited me to their personal home for dinner. I did that a few times too, and when I showed up at their house in the village it was like a foreign dignitary had come to their house. Ive never felt so humble in my life. Ill never forget those experiences.

Don't the Amish speak German mostly too?

Its like their brain turns off!!

As an Italian I appreciate how much they also talk with their hands lol

Languages break down any borders INSTANTLY and I am so jealous of this guys ability to learn them quickly

Im not big on Indian food but that looked really good, and fun to eat too.

Even with all the practice Im sure you do I dont understand how this is possible
1
So you speak Mandarin AND Punjabi?? How!? Also its kind of funny how they still speak English back to you, its like their brains cant accept that a white kid can speak their language at first! :D
1
Its so true. Speaking someones language breaks down barriers instantly

@tonytan1591 Yep. I had many chinese people tell me there were a lot of words in traditional script they still didnt know.

Arabs are the friendlist people I have ever met, and I've travelled a solid amount. Its not even close either really. They can and WILL invite you to their house to meet their ENTIRE family like ten minutes after they met you. No joke. They are just the best...I hope in the future the perception of Arabia and MidEast changes for the better. And it will.

NOTHING brings peoples guard down like trying to speak their language. Its an absolutely universal response! 3:17 will always be my favorite, the head turns lol

Lived in China for three years and at some point I just gave up completely at learning Mandarin fluently. I never could grasp the four tones. Any language that has tonal inflections is just lost on me as a westerner, its like my brain just cant process it.
