  1. I lived in China for three yeras, never really got that good speaking Mandarin (its hard!!). But I knew enough to order at a restaurant decent enough. I got free food sooooo much, not so much from restaurants, but frmo street vendors and street restaurants. They are so excited a laowai can speak their language, sometimes they even invited me to their personal home for dinner. I did that a few times too, and when I showed up at their house in the village it was like a foreign dignitary had come to their house. Ive never felt so humble in my life. Ill never forget those experiences.
