@CHANLOKHANGJUSTIN English is being used by many countries, by your logic, it shouldn't be called English because it's not being used by England only.

Chinese New Year

@close_all_tabs China just successully added the Spring Festival into the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. You know China's official translation for the festival is Spring Festival, however this name is misleading as it was coined by Yuan Shikai in 1913 when the Gregorian Calender was adopted by China and there were two New Years suddenly in China, the Western New Year and Chinese New Year, so Yuan Shikai renamed the Chinese New Year the Spring festival and shifted the name Yuandan (literally "the first dawn") from the Chinese New Year to the Western New Year to differentiate the two. Traditionally, the Chinese New Year isn't associated with the arrival of Spring as there is a specific day on the Chinese Calender for that purpose, though the two days were often quite close to each other. Nowadays in China, people said both names interchangeably, The New Year (no need to say Chinese when it's in China, so it's simply New Year) or Spring Festival.

@close_all_tabs The Chinese Calender is not a lunar calender but a lunisolar calender as there are 24 jieqi (or solar terms) to suggest seasonal cycles in company with the moon-cycle-determined month cycles. The 24 jieqi is very very important in the Chinese lunisolar calender as it guides the perception of seasons and agricultural productions,e.g. it specifies the degree of summer heat and winter cold, rain strength, dew strength, frost strength, snow strength by dates. The 24 jieqi also introduced the opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games held in Beijing. So it's not technically correct to call Chinese New Year the Lunar New Year, it should be Lunisolar New Year.

@ China is indeed special in comparison to the nearby Sinosphere states like Korea, Vietnam and Japan. (Korea and Vietnam still celebrate the festival but Japan no longer does so, as it only uses the Western Calender since the late 19th century). The Chinese Calender, Zodiac and Chinese Calender-derived festivals originated from China 3000-4000 years ago and along with other parts of Chinese culture, they later spread into the nearby countries transforming them into Sinicized states, which is known as Sinosphere. You can't deny that. This festival has been celebrated in China for over 3000 consecutive years as per the ancient Chinese records of it (search: How old is the Chinese New Year?). Calling the Chinese New Year its rightful name is paying respect to its place of origin. Why is that a crime in your eyes?
