  1. Why? For the same reason that they teach about the history of African Americans in this countries history and the persecuting brought upon them. Bc it's not just about teaching the LGBTQ children. It's teaching the other children a better understanding of them, so they won't shy away from them, or bully them, or commit acts of hate speech and hate crimes against them, bc they are different in a way that they don't understand.

  2. A large part of the teachings about African-American history in this country revolve around things like slavery and persecution. We teach these things so we learn from the mistakes of our past and don't keep repeating the same behavior. How is this any different then teaching children to not discriminate against people based on their sexual orientation? A lot of these children clearly are not getting those lessons from home.
