Your claim about it being about "popularity" is the real fallacy here, because literally every democracy is a contest of who is more popular with voters. Nzism started out with the respective party becoming one of the leading powers in Germany after a deomcratic election (what you call "popularity"). The Italian way towards fscism started with the March on Rome, the forced abdication of the king and the majority support for the party (also "popularity"). Neither Mrxism, nor Socialism or communism have anything to do with "popularity". It's about working class people owning the means of production and deciding together how to run the economy of a country. It's not a personality cult based on popularity, but about issues and solutions.
