"Stop pushing kids to the next grade.": You do realize that teachers' hands are tied in this regard. We could be sued by the parents for not letting their kids pass, because we'd be breaking the law.

"Stop passing them if they are behind": I'd love to. Idk about you, but I've taught in Europe and there teachers are forced to let children pass, even if they do nothing all year round, because there are similar policies as "no child left behind" there as well.

Same thing is happening there. Unless a student doesn't hand in any work at all, they will move on to the next grade. And I really mean *any work at all*! If a student is handing in just a single meaningful word (even by simply taking to you without ever writing something down) of an entire presentation or essay, we the teachers are forced to give students a positive grade. They literally couldn't fail if they tried. And if you have kids with disabilities as diagnosed by psychologists / psychiatrics / whoever it's even worse, because most of those kids don't actually have any disabilities at all. They just fake it with the help of their parents so they get the best grades without having to do any work. I'm not kidding! One such kids was dancing in class during a test and disturbing his classmates, but because he is considered special needs by law and he had at least written his name on his otherwise empty test, he passed. Schools have been made into a sh!tshow, because our politicians want a populace that is easy to control and lacks any critical thinking skills to understand that capitalism doesn't work for the working class.
