I think you misunderstand the type of person who might buy a Hi Point. They're spending, as you said, $150 tops to get that Hi Point. It's very doubtful they are going to go to a training class or gun membership. You bought that Hi Point as a fun gun, rather than a serious item that you plan to use for self-defense. I think someone who buys a Hi Point would be someone not very into guns, might not want to spend a whole lot of money, but just want a pistol "just in case." Very doubtful they're going to clean, maintain it, or do anything beyond probably just shooting it once during the free membership period that a lot of gun shops with ranges might give to new buyers.

Even if you buy the cheapest wolf ammo, shooting just 500 rounds would already be the value of your firearm. I can't imagine someone would spend $110 for a pistol, then be willing to spend an equal amount in ammo. The question of why be cheap at that point?
