@gregbors8364 That's a really good comparison. I only ever seen the Bronson's Death Wish movies but it suffers the same issue as Seagal's movies. The first film looked very well with a simple plot of a man pushed over the edge as he's fed up with the crimes. But his other movies start to get noticeably weaker in plot where you can't relate and it instead looks as if he's just mowing down people presumably bad.

I do think his earlier movies had a simple plot that made it known he's a "good guy." But his post stardom movies all tend to have very complex plots that's harder to follow and conclude. You're trying to figure out the plot at the same time as Seagal seems to just know who the bad guys are without ever explaining to the viewer or even showing how he figured it all out. All it does is as you say make him look like a homicidal maniac.

I felt his earlier films were a lot better in terms of plot and knowing who the bad guys are. I seen Under Siege the other day and it's miles better than his current movies. I mean you get a girl popping out a cake and it's like unbelievable but not like his current movie where someone 1/3 of this age just uncontrollably have to be with him. Also you knew who the bad guys are and every kill he made felt like justice but his current movies are so complex and hard to follow yet Seagal wants you to believe him in that he's killing the bad guys but we as an audience don't really establish that.

The big reason he uses a body double is not because he's lazy - well maybe it depends on how you look at it - but he has a standard to not show up on set. As a matter of fact, the movie Urban Justice is one of his highest rated post-stardom movie and he appeared in 90% of the movie because the director would only work if Seagal showed up each day and stayed until the set closes. During the shooting, Seagal didn't show up one day and it caused a big commotion as they argued and finally got him on set but it delayed everything and caused a crunch as they had to shoot across a longer day to make up since they only had a limited set. As far as the story being complex, it is. Not that being "complex" is a good thing but rather that he has so many loose ends and subplots, and he has to fit it all into a 90 minutes movie that it makes it impossible to concentrate on any single aspect of the story line which makes it, as you say, hard to follow and the end result is what you see now. @Noahboy8

@__-tp4tm As I was saying earlier he's trying to put out this front that he's some kind of actual killer who not only can kill on screen but in real life too. Based on various stories of his on set behavior it sounds like he wants his castmates and others to believe that he's the real deal. However, as I was saying, he doesn't look anything like this bad character that he's portraying. He's very large and seems very tired all the time. So yeah those videos are included in with that initial discussion. As I was saying if lost weight and could kick higher than his knee I think he might at least have some valid claim to what he's doing. Until then, yeah it's cartoonishly horrible. No one is going to believe a 400 pounds man, incapable of moving or running, is somehow capable of just annihilating extremely fit young men.

@__-tp4tm Until then, we'll have his cartoonish movies where we're to believe an overweight, bloated, seemingly disinterested in everything is somehow capable of beating up and completely destroying anyone who gets in his way. If you watch Under Siege, this doesn't happen in that film. He's actually moving around and doing things aside from just kicking knee high and double slapping everyone.

@__-tp4tm I’m not a fan per se. I did like under siege and believed it was miles better than any of his current films. But I will say Seagals biggest issue is that he doesn’t look like the roles he want to play. He’s morbidly obese and looks lethargic. If he lost a lot of weight that would solve at least his portrayal in these films.

@__-tp4tm for the most part the guy sounds like a rotten person to deal with. But I think people could deal with that if he looked the part and people could say they worked with THE Seagal and it would be like a badge of honor than humiliation.

@__-tp4tm You ever seen the one where he's eating that carrot? He's holding it like bugs bunny, which always made me laugh. Then his one in Lawman where he's shooting that pistol but whenever they show his partner shooting, they have his partner, and the target in the same frame and shows how he's really shooting. Whereas with Seagal, it's always him shooting and the target being in perfect groups but they're always in different frames. Two of my favorites Seagal videos.
